WAS ISRAELI NEWSPAPER WRONG TO PUBLISH OBAMA'S PRAYER?

[+] serious ballot by JimmyJams
ACTIVE Sun Jul 27, 08 - Sat Oct 25, 08

There is much controvery over an incident involving Barack Obama's private prayer being published in an Israeli newspaper.

While visiting the Western Wall, Barack Obama wrote his prayer on a slip of paper, as is customary and inserted it into the wall, which is also customary.

A rabinical student later went back and took the prayer out of the wall and gave it to an Israeli newspaper. That newspaper then published the prayer.

There is now outrage over the incident, with many saying they violated custom and Barack Obama's privacy, as well as his relationship with God.

The student taking the prayer is bad enough but the paper publishing it is an incomprehensible act in my opinion. What say you ladies and gentlemen?

Student and paper were wrong to do that
I have no problem with what they did
Maybe Obama had a hand in it
He should pray for some more political experience, as he has none to speak of.

That kind of thing should be private.

Voted : Student and paper were wrong to do that
It was in very poor taste.

And the other non-Israeli news sources that reported what was in the prayer are no better.
by Grumpy_Person on Sun Jul 27, 08 6:59pm [+]

I know many news services around the world have refused to run the prayer. What sources have you seen it in? I've yet to read what was written in the prayer. Appreciate if you can let me know where you've read it, as I'd like to. Terrible I know, but what can I say?

Knowing how much a senator like himself is always in the eyes of the public...maybe he wrote the prayer for publication and just counted off the days before it was in the papers. He's not a stupid man. Manipulative, yes. He knew what he was doing.

I have to totally disagree. To think that he planned for some random rabinical student to take the prayer and then that it would be published? That's too far fetched. I actually did find that the BBC printed a copy of the prayer and in my web search discovered that notorious web sites like Stormfront are propogating that Obama was in on it, as you are hinting. Again, absurd since the identity of the student who took the prayer is known and the paper which first published it has acknowledged they came into possession of the written prayer by the rabinical student.

^I agree with jimmyjams on this one.

What does the option added to the ballot have to do with the issue I'm hoping to discuss? I'm speaking of the option that he should pray for some more political experience. Rather than add in a cheeky choice, maybe you would care to actually engage in a debate on the topic? Really quite simple. Perhaps not for you?

JimmyJams, I read the first paragraph on AP news. When I noticed that a photograph of what looked like a letter started loading to the side, I knew where it was going and stopped reading. What was in the letter is none of my business, I just wanted to read news.

Thanks much Grumpy_Person. I noticed the same thing on BBC. I did however read it. Couldn't help myself. It's really a lovely prayer. It's a shame it's been made public. The student who took it and betrayed his privacy must feel like a real arse.
by JimmyJams on Sun Jul 27, 08 8:53pm [+]

Well, to each their own, so I can't blame you for reading it. But I do wish that the more notable news sources would have shown more respect by not printing it. But that's the press for ya. Nothing is sacred to them.

I know, I've got a brother-in-law who's a reporter/editor for a newspaper. The guy will whore his mother out if he knew the story about it would get read.

I doubt that any of them would want *their* prayers posted for the world to see.

Voted : Student and paper were wrong to do that
But in the students mind it's okay because the rest are but mere cattle.

I Expect Harvey Levin to publish it soon.012

Barack Obama wanted the world to know that he can pray like a Christian. Thus, he penned a ‘note to God' on stationery from the King David Hotel in Jerusalem, and he generously gave a copy to the "international media even before he put in the Kotel, a short time after he wrote it at the King David Hotel."

Are you mad? Do you not own a tellie or radio or have access to the internet? The student who took the prayer denies it not. Absolutely unbelievable the drivel that people will believe and spread. Just ignorance.
by JimmyJams on Wed Jul 30, 08 2:22pm [+]

And mate, your inference to Islam is laughable. Did you not know that Muslims, Christians and Jews have the same God? Did you not know that Muslims also refer to God as Lord and not just as Allah? Just amazing the simpletons that live in America.
by JimmyJams on Wed Jul 30, 08 2:25pm [+]

The Muslim and the Jewish version of the OT are different.
