Not all elderly people have Alzheimer's. So long as someone is healthy enough and experienced enough, their age shouldn't restrict them from being president.

Please, please, *please*. And let's get it set in stone within the next two weeks.

By all means... we don't need the destiny of a Nation in the hands of a functioning "vegetable"...
There's a drooling vegetable just on the way out.
Yeah I remember on several occasions when he used to just stare with a confused smile on his face in response to reporters questions, his wife Nancy would mutter a monosyllabic answer under her breath and he would parrot it, it's clear on hindsight now that it wasn't a case of him not hearing the question which was what I thought at the time - but that he was in fact descending into the dementia Hell that is Altzeimers. Anyone remember him in a speech over a dinner referring to Princess Diana as Princess 'David'?
I also remember a poignant piece in Time magazine written by an old friend of his in which Reagan showed him his book collection and he was talking about making space for new books by 'clearing some of the trees' or something to that effect - interesting to note how his malfunctioning brain referred to the books as 'trees' -which is essentially what they are made of in essence - like some deeper part of his brain was communicating to compensate for the diminishing state of his cerebral cortex. He referred to standing beside Reagan thus - 'While I was in his presence all I could feel was his absence' - or words very much similar and to that effect, I think that line sums up perfectkly what it must be like to live with a loved who is succumbing to this nightmare disease that is effectively a living death for everyone involved.

No. What Mr_Spleen said. I know people in their 90s that have more common sense and a better memory than people a third of their age have.
It's a scientific fact the brain in most people is less capable as you age... you may think you are in command of the facts but are not as "sharp"... I have alreay seen signs of one Presidential candidate declaring he didn't say something and then watching numerous tv clips of himself saying those very things... anyone can misstate something, but they usually catch themselves...
