and lets face it, the combustion engine will be obsolete in 50 years, better get in now, as unless they can run cars at that speed on sea water, you wont get another chance

Yeah, why not? Most people wouldn't drive much faster than they already do anyway. The speed limit doesn't seem to be much of a factor in determining highway speeds in the US. When it was 55, there were still as many people as there are today driving 70-80 mph.
