99C ONLY STORES RAISES PRICES : IS IT FALSE ADVERTISING?

[+] joke ballot by LCD
ACTIVE Mon Sep 08, 08 - Tue Sep 08, 09

CITY OF COMMERCE, Calif. - Discounter 99 Cents Only Stores Inc. said Monday it will raise prices, including increasing its top price, to "99.99" cents, or nearly a dollar.

The new price point will be implemented in the company's 277 stores later this month.

Company Chief Executive Eric Schiffer said the increase is due to "dramatically rising costs and inflation."

"This nearly one cent price raise will help 99 Cents Only Stores offset some of the increased costs of doing business including higher fuel and commodity costs," he said in a statement.

yeah sure. but is it false advertising?

yes, 99.99c is greater than 99c, false advertising

COMMENTS:
not if they tell you they're raising their prices. if they continue to advertise only 99 cents then yeah, but if it's the name of their stores and they publicly inform of the increase, then no, it's not false advertising.

They should call it "Dollar Minus" or "Dollar Less" or something because it is almost a dollar store now.

In Atlanta, all of the 99-cent stores have changed their names to dollar stores. One owner specifically said that he was doing it to avoid possible deception of the customers.
