SHOULD MUSICIANS WHO LOST THEIR VOICES JUST RETIRE?

SHOULD MUSICIANS WHO LOST THEIR VOICES JUST RETIRE?

I recently went to a B52 concert.

It's a novelty act, and the camp value by itself was worth it, but let's face it, after 25 years, they don't sound anything like their original albums, and Fred Schneider's voice gave out more than one occasion. half way through the show, the harmony between the blonde and the redhead gogo dancers (the blonde lost a lot of weight, from the last time I saw them) was sounding more like two cats fighting over each other.

should musicians just give up after a while, and stop giving concerts when they cannot perform to acceptable standards?

they should tour as long as people go to see them
they should go out on a high note, and not drag it out
When nobody wants to see them anymore, they should teach their trade
What Else Are They Gonna Do?

I've been to a few of those reunion concerts and I'm kinda sorry that I went.

If mugs keep paying, why shouldn't they keep touring?

I went to see the Sex Pistols last year and they were as good, loud and obnoxious as they ever were. eek

My girlfriend and her father just went to see Bob Dylan. The recordings she brought back are... tragic I guess. Many of his songs had to be completely over-hauled to suit his aging voice (and his vocal style sure as hell does not age gracefully) and arthritic hands.

But keep going til you can't goes no more. If nothing else, being the presence of a legend validates the ticket price.

^ I went to see Dylan too, and I agree there, he's definately gone down hill. He's been losing it since the late 90's.

A few years ago, I heard Robert Plant performing live on TV. The state of his voice was enough to put me off listening to any Zep songs for several months.

^ I know. I think he knows it too. That's my theory why he's the only remaining member holding out for a reunion tour.

I saw the Guess Who at a reunion concert and the singer's voice was pretty much shot. Some songs were okay and others just sucked.
