From York, PA I can get to New York City within four hours.

This one. The Delaware Water Gap is nice, too. The Jersey Shore is better than no beach, although I won't say it's the best.

For beaches, I like Crystal Beach. It's not as crowded and much more clean than Galveston. South Padre further to the south is great, but that's an additional 3 or 4 hour drive.
I'm surrounded by Toledo Bend, lake Rayburn, and about three or four national forests. We used to go out with friends on their sail boat and go diving there. Both places have great spots for diving, fishing, swimming, horseback riding and camping.
