I found a cool new diversion. I troll the globe via Google Maps, go to satellite views, then go to street views, and use the on-line arrows to drive up and down the streets of different cities. It is like remote viewing in a way.

I have been to Paris, Rome and Vienna this way. The prettiest North American places I have visited are Maryland, Idaho, Denver and Vancouver.

Fairbanks was dismal and lonely looking. But the most wretched and godawful place was Detroit. Almost the whole Detroit residential area looked like abandoned lots. Many streets were not even paved--just muddy ruts.

Tokyo was all high tech and modern looking.

Many small, rural New England towns looked like settings for horror movies.

but there's no comparison to actually being there. for one, the resolution is so much better :)
