COMMENTS:
Well, don't forget about Fernando Savater, after all, his works on modern politics are quite impressive. And Michel Serres is pretty much the father of what we could call now "metaphysics of technology"... haha, what a great dude, I actually met him in person once... But hey, Popeye the Sailor seems a nice choice as well.

Oh well, isn't it too early, after all, to determine who the greatest contemporary philosopher is?

Oh damn, I thought it was "1990 and later"!
by Smat on Fri Jan 23, 04 1:32pm [+]

Well, if it's for the whole century, where are Sartre, Simone de Beauvoir, Popper, Heidegger, Bertrand Russell, Jaspers, Wittgenstein, Adorno, Castañeda, Lyotard, Foucault, Habermas, Derrida, and all the cool philosophers?

"Life is just a series of peaks and troughs. And you don’t know whether you’re in a trough until you’re climbing out, or on a peak until you’re coming down. And that’s it you know, you never know what’s round the corner. But it’s all good. ‘If you want the rainbow, you’ve gotta put up with the rain.’ Do you know which philosopher said that? Dolly Parton. And people say she’s just a big pair of tits."

David Brent, 2002.

What about Freud? Oh, and what about political thinkers? Bakunin, anyone? Where are all the Sartre fans out there? Come on, people, who's the greatest and why? I can't believe this ballot ain't as popular as it should.

Won't anyone ask something like : "what makes a great philosopher the greatest one?" or something?
by Smat on Mon Jan 26, 04 6:59am [+]

Freud was not a philosopher, he was a depraved pseudo-shrink.
by jannine on Thu Jan 29, 04 2:09am [+]

See that, Smat? I'm the greatest philosopher of all time.

It's about time someone admitted it...
by Jannine on Mon Feb 02, 04 1:49am [+]

Hey, what about me? I wanna be a great philosopher too!

Oh, and I consider Freud a philosopher. What is a philosopher to you? Aint it a person that pursues the explanation of questions about existence and knowledge and ethics through rational investigation? And to that lovely Jung lover : Sure, Jung did disagree with Freud, but without Freud, he would have had nothing to disagree with, right? Don't be so pissed at the old man. Even if you think he wasn't right about everything, his theory was the basis of psychoanalysis. Personally, all I have against Freud is the fact that he was one boring dude.

And someone voted for Baudrillard, wow. Didn't think someone would come up with that one.

psychoanalysis is total bullshit and Freud is a "depraved pseudo-shrink. ". Bottom line.
