Saying God owns the Moon is stupid. By that logic God also owns the Earth so we shouldn't be paying rent or taxes to anyone.
Islamic fundamentalists have always annoyed me but it is becoming increasingly obvious that the Christian fundamentalists in the USA are equally as dangerous in their thinking.
If the Universe was created then the creator is obviously the owner of it all but that isn't going to stop other nations/people laying claim to it.
If it's true that there has been an international treaty stating that no country can stake a claim to the moon, then no one will own the Moon until it's own nations are established there.
So no one owns the Moon until people on the Moon declare themselves a nation.
And that won't happen for a long time.
No one wil ever live in the moon unless it's a moon base 100% supported by Earth. There's nothing there to live off of.
When a big enough base city is built they could survive on their own. A giant complex that is a self-contained green house biosphere that grows its own plants and raises animals. Water and air filtered and recycled. Large underground factories for processing food and manufactoring essential goods. They could create a real economy when they begin mining operations and export minerals back to Earth. I would think however that it might be limited by those wanting to treat it like a nationally protected park. You change the surface of the moon to much and our night sky will be affected. No one would want a black moon that reflects no light. No one owns anything outside of Earth and I think the land will be claimed by whoever builds there first until there is no more land left there to claim.

Sure you could raise animals and plants on the moon. But you need energy to keep the place powered, you need water, you need fresh air, etc. Where is this going to come from? If we were capable of doing this on Earth we wouldn't be robbing the planet of natural resources anymore.
I think we have the science to create a small self-contained biosphere. You start it off with resources from Earth, but just like Earth it would become self-sufficent. I would imagine that solar energy would be a good energy source considering it blasts the surface that faces us non-stop. Water and air can be filtered with high tech devices. The real problem is getting all the materials there and building it while wearing a bulky space suit.

Spout that drivel to the real Neil Armstrong, and he'd probably punch your lights out. I've been a freelance photographer for 20 years. I know how light works and how film reacts to it, and that claim is utterly false. I've seen some altered photos on the web passed off as "proof" that the Apollo landings were hoaxed, but if you compare those images to the originals, it's obvious they've been tampered with. The orchestrators of the "moon hoax" conspiracy theory know full well that the landings weren't faked. They also know that the world is full of gullible people, and there's money to be made and notoriety to be gained by "exposing" the alleged conspiracy.

I guess Dennis Hope supposedly owns the moon since he wrote to the UN and major world governments proclaiming he owns all extraterrestial land in the solar system--receiving no responses from anyone. There is a UN treaty claiming that no government can "claim" ownership of the moon, but it says nothing about private individuals or companies. A second treaty was formed to handle this issue, but it was only signed by a small number of countries.
So, since Dennis Hope claims to own it and is selling plots online for as little as $19.95 a pop--complete with deeds and other legal documents, I guess he owns it? ;-)

If 'technically' USA owns the moon because they have their flag on it, then surely the USA belongs to Native American Indian, therefore the moon belongs to them?
to be fair, the moons pretty shite anyways. Apart from givin us tides and a nice view at night i could do without it. The Us can have the moon and we'l (UK) have mars. Bit of teraforming and we'l be away. Mind you, the green house gases needed to change it's atmosphere might be most easily obtained from the US. They know how to release a whole load of noxious fumes, and they burn allot of fossil fuels.

Wal*Mart already has stores on the moon and on Mars. They have aliens and martians working in sweatshops for $3 an hour to make their merchandise and they have fat, loud-mouthed people who pick their noses and put it in the McDonald's food there running the stores. Since they pretty much have a monopoly on gas on the moon and Mars, their gas prices are much higher than anyway here on Earth. (Yes, Super Wal*Mart locations have gas stations.) Target and K-Mart plan to relocate some of their employees to the new stores that they are opening on the moon and Mars to compete with Wal*Mart. Right now, though, Wal*Mart owns the moon. It also owns Mars.

The moon most likely will remain international and will only be populated by scientists or possibly 'space tourists'. No one will ever live there because well, there's nothing to live off of. Unless you launch a promising career selling rocks and dust.
