I think it's a catholic thing. I'm not catholic, but I respect their beliefs.
I think this is a catholic issue too. But isn't always spanish. I'm fairly certain there are jesus in italy too and portugal. I also think it's quite big in the middle east amongst non-christians. To them It's just a name. Ok the name of a prophet and not a god but just a name all the same.

Like if god were called peter or something.

Again it comes back to western culture and it's insistence on changing religion to suit itself.

What people in the middle east talk like and look like so did jesus 2000 years ago...

well apart from the fact he doesn't exist. But he would all the same....

Most americans think jesus speaks english and is white.

But he would still have spoke arabic and been a palastinian.

I'm sorry, but you've got to be incredibly arrogant to name your kid after God Himself.
Actually it is heard of in English speaking communities.

Yeshua (which is hebrew for what became the name jesus) is a very common name amongst jews.

The jews don't believe in jesus and god doesn't exist. :-P
Besides roughly translated jesus means saviour. You really think that's a coincedence???
It is his title Christ that is holy.
Jesus was Jewish.
UEveryone knows jesus was jewish unclemax. why did you feel the need to point that out?

Christ is just another hebrew word. it means basically annointed.

There is no significant spiritual deffinitions of defference to god in either unclemax nor are either blasphemy unless among mindless zealots. sorry RW

sorry my spellings gone to shit i'm tired :-)

I don't.
Problem would be calling your son to dinner, "Jesus come here" we used the name in vain so much that it almost seems disrespectful if used in any other way but in worship.
Muslims all have mohammed as a middle name and muslim parents will address their children that way. "abdul mohammed get down from that 12 year old virgin"

They see it as a sign of respect.

Christians cant even spell the name properly. But then that's catholicism for you.

What if you named your son Jesus and he turned out to be an atheist?
^LOL that's funny,
