COMMENTS:
I'm a Democrat, but I'm going to vote for Bush. I'm so ashamed of Democrats I'm going to change to Republican. The Southern Democrat is no more, so we will all be voting Republican now. If the Democrats had ever stood up for us on anything they would be in this trouble.

I am so glad I live in Canada, one of the few places in the world Bush hasn't fucked up.

(not that he hasn't tried...)

It depends on who his opponent is and what they have to say. That's the whole reason we have elections... so we have choices. May the best man win!

Agreed, it's just that to me none of theDemocrats have impressed me at all yet.

It's amazing how Bush can fool 60% of the country for so long (his approval rating is 60%). Maybe we really are all idiots.

When asked about naming his cabinet: "I told all four that there are going to be some times where we don't agree with each other, but that's OK. If this were a dictatorship, it would be a heck of a lot easier, just so long as I'm the dictator," Bush joked.
He's making a joke about how the always
painstaking process of naming his cabinet would be easier if he could just pick them and that was it. He's not making a suggestion of dictatorship in America!

Freedom of speech doesn't include ALL speech in ALL places. For example, you can't yell "FIRE" in a theatre. The protesters are angry with Bush and assemble with much hostility toward him. During times of war, the secret service doesn't take any chances and the local police were instructed not to either.
Neel did refuse to move when asked to do so by the police and they reacted how they are supposed to when they encounter noncompliance for anything. Neel wasn't a threat, the judge saw that, the charges were dropped, and he even got his sign back.

I don't agree with the passing of the Intelligence Authorization Act for Fiscal year 2004, but is Bush or our entire government (Democrats and Republicans) at fault? The Senate passed the legislation with a unanimous voice vote and the House version passed with overwhelming Democratic support.

Padilla had been implicated in a gangland murder when he was 13 and was confined as a juvenile offender in Illinois in 1985. In Florida in 1991, he was arrested after a road-rage shooting incident and spent a year in a Florida jail. He converted to Islam during his spell in prison, and eventually made his way to Afghanistan or Pakistan to make common cause with al-Qaeda. Padilla got some instruction in bomb-making, and some cash, then al-Qaeda leaders reportedly discussed with him schemes ranging from "dirty bombs" to blowing up gas stations — discussions which some captive terrorist leaders appear to have shared with U.S. agents. The authorities had to move him out of the criminal justice system and into military detention to support keeping him in prison.

Enemy combatants captured during the course of hostilities are subject to military, rather than civilian, jurisdiction. The military can detain lawful combatants, if it chooses, without charging them with any offense. It can simply hold them as prisoners of war until the cessation of hostilities. So if Hamdi was indeed a Taliban member and thus an enemy combatant, he remains one.

The Syrian embassy in Washington has told the U.S. that Arar was not tortured, consistent with assurances given to them before he was deported. It is speculation to say, "U.S. agents wanted him questioned further by someone whose methods might be more persuasive than theirs."

Ashcroft specifies for the revocation of drug prescription licenses of doctors who participate in an assisted suicide using FEDERALLY controlled substances. His directive did not authorize criminal prosecution of those doctors. Ashcroft said that assisted suicide is not a "legitimate medical purpose" for prescribing, dispensing or administering federally controlled substances. He said that the use of such drugs by physicians to manage patients' pain is medically valid.

He is the worst president in US history.
by xxxxxxxx on Fri Feb 20, 04 1:13am [+]

No, Cheesecake, you can't yell "fire" in a crowded theater. And in the US, you can apparently no longer disagree with the president.
by Biggus_Dickus on Mon Feb 23, 04 6:19pm [+]

Biggus_Dickus: Free speech is limited by the potential physical threat it poses to another person. In this instance, you have an uncooperative man who is refusing to comply with the police's requests regarding proximity to the president during a time of war... thus, they naturally chose to err in the side of caution and removed him from the vicinity.

Of course you can disagree with the president, just use some common sense when doing so.
