ROCKOCHUSSETS
In my honest opinion I reckon Britain produced the best rock bands in 60s, 70s, & 80s, but since then America has produced the best.
Britain did produce the greatest bands both rock and pop but now the British charts have been taken over by cheap skinny pretty boy and girl groups with no talent whatsoever and the real musicians dont get a look in because they are not young and pretty enough so i reckon at the moment America produces the best bands.
Wright, that was a crap thing to say. What your saying is that because pop music sells more in Britain, that Britain has crap rock bands? You'd find a similiar case in America. Anyway, in 2003 there was more rock albums solds in Britain than pop albums. There are so many bands coming out in Britain now.
In terms of newish bands right now, you can compare... The Strokes, White Stripes, Kings of Leon v The Darkness, Muse, The Coral, Coldplay If your a rock band in America, you need to tour endlessly to get any success. No British has bothered to that in ages. (But THe Darkness are planning to in the future)
I agree completely the UK completely ruled the 60s 70s and 80s. And the '90s and double-aughts completely except for a few American bands listed above who are trying to sound British while these new British bands I hear are trying to sound like they're from Seattle. And of course "pop" can barely be considered music.
I meant to include the word "sucked" before completely" but I had to do some editing because promotion of websites is not allowed because I typed U.K. with two periods.
Now how the hell did that one get through?
Britain seems to have a larger influence of change, but it's hard to say now, no rock band has any staying power, they write two good songs and disappear. Nirvana was the last Great band I can think of from the US. Before that, Metallica kicked ass, now even they are stinking it up. I'm going to have to answer the question with a question, "Where will the next huge rock band come from?" my guess would be England again. Whenever shit goes stale, England revamps music.
I think both countries produce some good stuff. On both sides on the Atlantic the charts are dominated by mindless pop crap produced by Fat record executives. But I reckon there is alot that American don't get to hear from Britain and vice versa. There are many amazing bands that never get the chance to be heard because they are pushed out by shitty pop. If you bypass the charts you will find some good music.
