Personally I use the term Black American. My nationality is American. My lovely tan makes it obvious that at least part of my ancestry is from Africa. But I have no ties to the African continent. And since the term African American doesn't embrace all of my ethnicity, I see no need to use it. If I had been the citizen of a country in Africa then became an American citizen, use the term African American would be appropriate. Otherwise, I feel it's a misnomer. I do realize, however, that my position is not a popular one due to the American education system & media.
You'll notice that my husband even refers to me as African American.
Though I have a preference, I'm not offended by either one.
And Couchnome, I do think you'd hire me if I was qualified for the position. Hopefully as a business man you'd want a person who could do an excellent job for you regardless of what they look like to you. Good business about about profits not prejudice.

You know, Donny Honey Cakes is right. In order to run a business you have to look for the best potential employee. That could mean any race. Whether it usually does or doesn't, that's not the point. The point is if you got two applicants, one black and one white, and the black is more qualified, you hire the black if you care about running a successful business. And vice-versa, if the white is better you hire him. Affirmative action is the bane of all capitalism, it's commie bullshit, but responsible hiring is a necessity.

I run a business with over 140 people in it and I have learned it dosent matter what color they are just as long as you keep a balance, If you get to many of one race then your asking for trouble.
