Apollos, who was "an eloquent man, and mighty in the scriptures" (Acts 18:24), used the scriptures of the Old Testament to convince many Jews that Jesus was the Messiah. Acts 18:28 says, "... he mightily convinced the Jews, and that publicly, shewing by the scriptures that Jesus was Christ." Since the vast majority of the New Testament had not yet been written, we know that "the scriptures" here, refers to the Old Testament.

We know that the 39 books of the Old Testament date back to a time long before Jesus Christ's earthly ministry for 4 reasons. (1.) It was proven by the finding of the dead sea scrolls, which predate Christs earthly ministry. (2) Even those of the Jew's religion, who do not believe Jesus Christ is the Messiah, agree that these 39 books were written prior to 300 BC. (3.) The Septuagint, the Greek translation of the Hebrew scriptures, was initiated in the reign of Ptolemy Philadelphus (285-246 BC). Obviously, the Old Testament had to have already been written in order to have been translated. (4.) Jesus Christ and the various New Testament writers frequently quoted from the books of the Old Testament.

As for the question of collaboration of the writers, there are many Old Testament prophets scattered over a 1000-year period who have given detailed descriptions regarding the same events which proved to be accurate. When such is the case, no charge of collusion can stand.

Abundant evidence of the diety of Jesus Christ is revealed through (1) the fulfillment of the Old Testament prophecies, (2) symbols (also called types or shadows) of Jesus Christ, and other sources. Thus, we can see how the coming of the Messiah was planned and predicted in the Old Testament.

What we, Christians, believe is simple. Jesus Christ came to Earth 2,000 year ago, nobody can dispute that. It's in even your most liberal history books. It is also written that He claimed to be God in the flesh, Messiah and Savior of this world. We know that Jesus Christ is God, Messiah and Savior. In John 10:38 Jesus states:

Then you will realize that the Father is in me, and I am in the Father.
History tells us that the Roman Empire and Jews felt threatened by the claims, miracles, and growing following of Christ. They eventually manipulated the system and had Christ crucified. Jesus knew this would happen and told his followers about it in John 12:20-36.

However, Jesus did rise after 3 days. This fact also cannot be disputed. We know this is true because the people who were there, it is said about 500, saw Jesus after his death and they went on to write and preach about it. Christ died so that our sins may be forgiven and we can live eternally with Him in Heaven.

Jesus Christ is the only way to Heaven. He makes that fact clear in John 14:16. The Jews continue to ignore their own scripture as Isaiah 53 clearly describes their Messiah, that which can only be Christ. The Buddhist worship a dead King in Buddha. The Muslims worship Allah, but Jesus says that only He is the Way, Truth, and Life.

No man in history has conquered death. What does that mean for you? It is foolish to think we just roam around this Earth for 80 or so years just to eat, sleep, work, and then die. We are more important to God than that, that is why he sent Jesus to us.

The world has always been a "fucked up place", as you call it. Life on Earth is just temporary. The real party place is heaven, but if you don't believe that Jesus Christ is the Messiah, then sorry, but you can't join the party.
by stranger7800 on Sat Feb 07, 04 3:02pm [+]

abuffguy, thanks for that. But no worries, my brother, I'm just doing what a believer must do...tell as much people as possible about Jesus Christ's invitation. And our book of faith warns us that mockery and persecution will come upon those who believe. (read on for some other stuff)

Believe it or not, I was once an atheist (as most scientists are), but when I discovered that there really is a God, this question came to me one day:
Can't I have a relationship with God without Jesus?
The main problem in having a relationship with God is the gap that exists between the two of us. God is completely holy and cannot tolerate the presence of any sin, whereas we are selfish sinners. God, recognizing this problem, sent Jesus as God's only provision to cleanse us of all our sin (He died for our sins). By accepting Jesus' sacrifice on our behalf and committing to follow Him we am declared righteous by God on the basis of our faith. Therefore as new creatures, declared righteous, we are able to come before the throne of God blameless and cleansed, reestablishing our relationship with God.

The Bible says we are justified by the grace (free gift) of God not by works but by faith in His Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus Himself said regarding doing the works of God:

They said therefore to Him, "What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?" Jesus answered and said to them, "This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent." (John 6:28-29)

This 'Jesus' character was a False jew messiah.. in addition to which the jew god 'yahweh-jehovah' was and is a False god, a tiny local tribal god which has erroneously been 'elevated' to some kind of 'real' god..!!!
..bible-quoters are a pain in the you-know-what, this jewgod stuff is just so much garbage..
It is Good to be human, the real world Is Good, GOD does Not 'judge' or 'punish' Anyone, we have been appropriately programmed to be and act pretty much as we are and do act..!! GOD approves, GOD observes, GOD understands.. If things are not "perfect", things Are getting better..!! It has to do with Intelligence, Discovery, Knowledge, and Improvement--in spite of negative influences from the past, And the present..!!
Do microorganisms, mosquitos, and poison ivy go to Heaven..!? Why not..!! There are Many mansions (and grass huts) in somebody's father's house, like, unlimited Time and Space and Multidimensional Universes without end, A-Men, oy..!!
Those who Do try to impose illogical and obnoxious 'beliefs' on me or anyone else, they Are unwelcome in my house and universe..!! Do Not inflict garbage on me or my people, pleeez..!!
Don't worry, you are going to Heaven whoever you are, Without having to believe any particular thing..!! Heaven is for All, no matter who, no matter what.. If you would rather Not comtinue to exist after death, perhaps that can "be arranged", also..?! Who nose.. Heaven is perhaps a next stage in consciousness, available to all, onward and upward, or in whatever multidimensional direction as provided or desired..!?
It's Fun to speculate, isn't it, but a bummer to be forced to believe somebody else's garbage..!!!
Don't believe garbage, eat healthful, nutritious Foods (facts, good thought, optimism, intelligence) instead..!!
This is Too Many Words again which no one will read, but, oh well..!!
