COMMENTS:
I frequently think about this question, and I think I'd say the best (as in most well made) was Psycho, but the scariest to watch was The Shining. It didn't have much of an after shock though...I think the biggest after shock for me was The Exicist. It's been almost a year since I first saw it and I still can't sleep in my bed unless I'm having a sleepover or something and there's somone else in the room. The shaking bed scene and the scene where Regan was thrashing in the bed and yelling "It burns!" really got to me...*shiver* I think the horror movie with the best ending was Carrie, and the best film score ties between Rosemary's Baby and The Shining for me. I could go on about this all day...^^;;;
