great britain is made up of scotland, england and wales. the united kingdom is made up of great britain and northern ireland. a lot of the time nobody mentions scotland, england, wales or northern ireland and just calls it the UK!

Hollyfona, the red bands at each end of your flag represent the Atlantic and the Pacific. (They didn't want blue, though, for some reason.) And the three spikes of the maple leaf represent the three founding peoples: the first nations, the French and the British. Good enough?
