COMMENTS:
Yes. Religion and God were invented to "fill in the blanks". Soon you idiots will be presented with too much evidence to pretend anymore.

user-abuse is absolutely correct
by xxxxxxxx on Fri Feb 06, 04 4:05pm [+]

I don't think so... The fear of death is too immense for humankind not to need supersticious explanations for it.
by Smat on Fri Feb 06, 04 4:06pm [+]

Do you people really believe that the existence of God is entirely impossible? Nothing is impossible. Anyone who thinks that God could be disproven is an idiot.
by EMERSON on Sat Feb 07, 04 12:29am [+]

No it is not impossible.
by User-Abuser on Sat Feb 07, 04 12:30am [+]

Religion is constantly becoming a thing of the past. Religion is dogmatic and stagnant. Nothing religious changes over time, in fact any attempt at change is considered blasphemous and is strongly challenged. The result is our present-day mix of religions that are all 2000+-year-old myths. The beauty of science is that no claim goes unchallenged. Every claim made is examined, tested and independently verified or shown to be flawed. Think about how this differs from religious belief. No religious claim can withstand such scrutiny. This is why religions rely on faith.

Since the Renascence the scientific method has pushed religious belief into a smaller and smaller corner. Today religion is standing on its tiptoes, desperately clinging to what it can. I predict that in 500 to 1000 years Christianity will be a dead religion, similar to Greek and Roman mythology. Science will prevail. Unless we all decide to go back to living caves, we will always seek the benefits science has to offer.
by I_Always_Lie on Sat Feb 07, 04 1:01am [+]

Hmmm, pretty confident. And only 500 to 1000 years you say? What new discovery do you see happening, when thousands of years worth of discoveries have not killed belief? That was smart of you to at least put your timeline well past our life spans.
by EMERSON on Sat Feb 07, 04 2:51am [+]

Well, think of how far we have come in the last thousand years. We've disproven half of religion since then, so to speak. In another thousand the other half will be disproven... Although the existence of *some* supreme being can never be know...
by User-Abuser on Sat Feb 07, 04 2:57am [+]

*known
by User-Abuser on Sat Feb 07, 04 2:57am [+]

I don't think your entirely correct. Even if God does not exist and there is something to disprove, there is no way it will be done fast enough to change people's minds. Most religous people have changed with scientific discoveries, and amended them with God included. This will continue. There will always be unanswered questions, and God will be the solution. Humans have always had a God and they always will.
by EMERSON on Sat Feb 07, 04 3:11am [+]

Well yes, but I imagine at the end of the line it'll be, "Well there's this process and that process, and this happens like this and like that... and somewhere out there, there could be a God..."
That's what I imagine will happen when there's not too many questions left to explain away. Yeah, answers only bring up more questions, but sooner or later I imagine people will realize that the answers lie in science not superstition...
by User-Abuser on Sat Feb 07, 04 3:19am [+]

Necessity is the mother of invention. Slowly but surely, God is becoming unnecessary. I agree with I_always_lie's prediction of 500-1000 years.
by mange on Sat Feb 07, 04 5:18pm [+]

"Yes. Religion and God were invented to "fill in the blanks". Soon you idiots will be presented with too much evidence to pretend anymore.
by User-Abuser on Feb 06, 2004"

If only that were true. Unfortunately, I've spent enough time arguing with fundies to know that no matter how much evidence you show them, they'll never abandon their cherished superstition. They just close their eyes, stick their fingers in their ears and shout "I can't hear you!" at the top of their lungs.
by Biggus_Dickus on Wed Feb 11, 04 10:48am [+]

Anonymous, there is also no evidence that a four eyed, winged anus entity doesn't exist. Does that make it any more likely that it does?
by mange on Thu Feb 12, 04 10:57am [+]

The only thing that exists is what your definition of what exists is.
by xxxxxxxx on Sat Feb 14, 04 3:59pm [+]

hopefully, the # of christans is recklineing
by antichrist on Mon Feb 16, 04 5:01pm [+]

My estimation is by no means an expert one. I freely admit that I'm not a history PhD or anything. But if you're interested why I chose that that range here it comes...

Christianity is a myth. Just like the Greek, Roman and Egyptian belief systems where myths. They lasted for several thousand years so I'm guessing Christianity will to. The only reason why you think it will be around forever is because you believe in it. Fortuantely, I'm not hindered by this bias.
by I_Always_Lie on Mon Feb 16, 04 5:18pm [+]

antichrist is a dumb illetrite bitch, i mean wtf is the last word shes trying to say f@%* she gives atheists everywere a bad fucking name! im no genius my self but look @ her stuped ass shit for fucks sake
by assbandit5000 on Mon Feb 16, 04 7:05pm [+]

It seems like most of you people here insulting religious people are more fanatical and hate filled than those who subscribe to religion
by TheArchitect on Tue Feb 17, 04 10:17pm [+]

why can't people take their stubburn, blind head out of their asses and follow virtue and value for WHAT IT IS!
instead of following a tall tale "god" or fairytale "saviour"

if religion is nothing but leading a good life then goddammit you can do it without pride in something you cant prove exists

and fuck jews
by xxxxxxxx on Sun Feb 22, 04 3:56pm [+]

i think religion is obsolete. but i am a stong believer in God. I have faith in my beliefs and i am content. Religion is mans creation and is flawed. when God created us he didnt say "I have created you and you are Christian (or
Muslim, or Jewish etc)" he created us and gave us the world and life. we arent Christain or Jewsih or Muslim. we are human beings: the children of God.
by Bobbus_Maximus on Fri Feb 27, 04 3:21pm [+]

People will always need to believe in a higher power controlling their lives. Takes the responsibility off of them for the most part and allows them the belief that death is not the end.
by Tadema on Mon Mar 22, 04 10:26am [+]

My comments are not said with hate but rather sadness that the after life I was raised to believe in is really no more than what the Romans had. It was a safe, comforting feeling to know you would see your family in the afterlife. It's a lonely feeling when you finally realize it's all about as factual as Santa Claus and his reindeer
by Tadema on Mon Mar 22, 04 10:34am [+]

Religions come and go. Only one thing is eternal--THE DALLAS COWBOYS.
by elvislennon on Fri Apr 02, 04 3:31pm [+]

And queers, apparently.
by mange on Fri Apr 02, 04 11:58pm [+]

"You have not come that realisation. You arrived at a belief. Prove to me God does not exist if you "realised" God is like Santa Claus"
Damn you cannot read or what? Heres a quote from an existing post:
"Anonymous, there is also no evidence that a four eyed, winged anus entity doesn't exist. Does that make it any more likely that it does?
by mange on Feb 12, 2004"
You stupid fuck
by xxxxxxxx on Sat Apr 03, 04 7:05pm [+]

Religion = life. It make the system, It make every thing clear and ready to applr directly.

Allah said in Quran: "We have, without doubt, sent down the message; and we will assuredly guard it (from corruption)"
