500 troops would be a paltry number compared to other U.S. wars, especially after almost a year of military engagement. Any death's a tragedy for a soldier's family and friends, but statistically, this is a fairly light set of casualties. If the U.S. can't sustain 500 casualties in a war against a nation of 25 million over a year, then, truly, the leftists have taken over and whinging, bawling, and wetting one's pants have become the new American pasttimes. The decadence is here at last, and the barbarians are driving fleets of old Chevrolets across the border from Matamoros and raiding & looting Target stores & 7-11's.

I say this, despite having no great liking for Dubya or his foreign policy, along with the sinking suspicion that a Shiite theocracy under Ayatollah Sistani and others a la Iran will be the ultimate fate of Iraq.

The people who say that the fact that Hussein was an evil butchering murderer makes it OK that there are no wmd need to take a broader view. The USA has supported lots of murderous despots all over the world and even put some of them in power. What makes Saddam so different? Possibly because he presided over a country with one of the largest oil reserves on the planet, and oil price is the biggest single cause of inflation in the U.S economy. I can't think of another reason.

"I love it when Couchgnome's moral principles in action are called "pant wetting" by types who are either suckers for or producers of bullshit propaganda. I notice Felix mentioned the 500 American casualties (not that many, shut up whinging pant wetters) but failed to mention that 10,000 (and the rest) Iraqis died. And all because of a group of politicians in the American government with connections to arms companies trumped up a load of evidence as a premist to invade. Most people realise this now but this fact seems to eluded Felix." Again, the figures could have been much worse, and the ends could have justified the means, had the entire process been implemented more effectively. The collateral casualties, considering the sheer scope of the military action, would be among some of the lowest in the history of warfare. As far as oil company "looting" and the like, I love it how assholes such as yourself point to a few articles in THE INDEPENDENT and are equally brainwashed into believing that line of horseshit "facts," as drummed up by a bunch of socialist shitbags who are so completely biased against the U.S. in general, that they will allow their own delusions to take the driver's seat in their reporting. As far as the ledger goes for this war, the U.S., in capital expenditures alone, is in the hole for tens of billions of dollars, and the relatively dilapidated oil delivery infrastructure in Iraq offers no quick guarantee of any profits for possibly decades to come. That's hardly a "colonial profiteering war," is it, piss-for-brains?

Its incredibly easy for someone sitting safe in his home to conclude that 500 dead is a small price to pay for a war that bush had no right executing. Its a far different situation for those same people to be sitting at work and to come home from work to find that your entire family has just been butchered because george bush considered your government to be a bunch of bad guys. It would be fitting for those who support this war to find a way to volunteer for a tour of duty in Iraq instead of sitting here shooting off yer mouths about how Iraq deserved it if george bush says they deserved it.Every human life is worth something, especially the innocent ones.If 500 or 1000 or 10000 or a million people are to be killed in senseless wars, at least let them be the ones who supported the war. Not the innocent people who want peace.

I was a soldier in the infantry for 4 years and I wish I was over in Iraq fighting for our country next to my fellow soldiers. I was deployed to Bosnia for 7 months, so I have seen some serious stuff. I am also a hardcore christian and I believe that the only war worth fighting is the war that will bring peace to the world. I believe that Iraq is part of that war, along with other countries that house terrorists. It is a shame that this war has to be fought, but I believe it does. God bless all our soldiers.
