he is odd. Very alternative music but not very good in my opinion.
The guy is a mad genius. If you don't believe me, Check out the playing on Trout Mask Replica and marvel at the fact that every single note on there was rehearshed.
Basically he forced his band into a three month rehearsal where they weren't allowed to leave, except for groceries. Two of the band members had to go into therapy afterwards from the whole experience.
He created cult-like conditions within his band by dominating them emotionally and physically, to give himself complete control over them. He gave them incentives to attack each other so they could be physically and verbally abused more effectively.
I went cold-turkey off of him immediately after learning that. Fuck Don Van Vliet. I knew he was something of a dick but I had no idea how bad he was.
