North Island. Yeah, South Island has lots of mountains and one decent sized city (Christchurch), North Island is where it's AT.
N. Island is very Polynesian, and S.Island is very English. South Island is probably one of the most beautiful places I've ever been trekking. Down in the fjordlands, Milford and Doubtful Sounds. Wellington, Rotorua and Auckland were fun, for cities, and nightlife, but I liked the South Island better for travel and outdoor activities.
