First, take a hot bath. Then get in bed in light clothes with few blankets. THe change in body temperature slows your body down and relaxes it. Sleep will soon follow.
I always find trying to stay awake as long as possible is usually the best way to drop off. You see, the mind is a naturally perverse little rebel and if you tell it to do one thing it often will push to do the other. That is why whenever it is my job to drive the truck transporting nuclear weapons through one of our cities in the middle of the night, I like to count sheep and try to make myself fall asleep. So far I've only nodded off a couple of times...it's practically failsafe.
drink yourself stupid(with alcohol)
Use a concrete pillow, you fall asleep as soon as your head hits it.

perform an excersise routine before you go to bed. perform 50 squats and 50 push-ups. you'll be so tired you will fall to sleep.
