The AP Reports that, A U.S. soldier who said he left his unit in Iraq to protest an oil-driven war and was disturbed be the mistreatment of Iraqi detainees by U.S. Troops, was convicted of desertion Friday and sentenced to a year in jail and a bad conduct discharge. Previously another U.S. soldier was sentenced the same for mistreatment of Iraqi detainees, Yes/No, is this American justice to give the same sentence for two different offenses? One soldier abused and the other refused to do the same and protested a war he believed is motivated by oil, is this JUSTICE, why or why not?

I did not see in justice in this case, how ridiculous to be sentenced the same as the other soldier.
He broke the law no matter his beliefs.
This is truly a sad moment for the American INjustice system.
See what happens to deserters not named Bush?
Firing squad for both

COMMENTS:
The law is the law. His action is no better that smoking pot in front of the police to protest. (not that i'm against pot, in any way).

Justice (capital J) is never justice though, everyone should know this. It's just written punishment and crap applied to people.
DEAL WITH IT.

RK, BBC didn't ask whether it's the law, she asked if it was JUSTICE. It may be the law, but far from justice.

What you do not like is the fact that this is _too_ fair. Equal treatment for the same crime. Regardless of _why_ a person commits a crime, the end result is the same... it is a crime. A person who steals to feed his family is just as guilty of theft as the person who steals to feed a crack addiction.

He should have thought of that before he joined tha Army.

CriminalMinded,

Amen! It is amazing to me that some have said "I came to get an education. I didn't know they were going to teach me how to kill people." LOL!

It's ok for George Dubya to desert during wartime though huh?

Wrong is wrong. You obey the law and regulations. Each soldier promises that when they first enlist.
