America is so much more capitolist than it was 12 years ago...because in Disney land Mickey used to walk around and sign autographs...now in this you don't get something for nothing american world, you have to pay $20 per person to see mickey and get a picture and autograph...if I ever have kids I'll just take them to Florida and let them watch the attraction from behind the fence...
Surely we Americans aren't all that bad. Don't hate us because our president is a moron--it's not like we elected him anyway. And we are not all fat and stupid. I'm 6' tall and weight 121 lbs. That's too thin for my own good.

Felix: You seem like a very intelligent and generally well mannered person. For that I am grateful. But you also seem a little on the naive side. Hmmm...perhaps not naive but... closeminded? No, that's not really right, either. My point is that you don't seem to be willing to een listen and understand where the other person is coming from. They may not be one hundred percent right but they do have some things right.
And to America (the contributor, not the country): what do "collages" have to do with the intelligence of the American people? Very little, I would guess, judging from your sentence compostion.

I like most of the Americans I have met.
I very mush dislike the militaristic policies of the US government.

Okay, first off, Americans don't hate other countries. In fact, I would say we love more countries than any other country in the world because we all see a bit of ourselves in the people of other countries (immigrants, etc..). Second, you can bash our country all you want, Lord knows that we've never done anything for your country (that's a joke, stupid). Third, and this might not have occured to you, but our country (the U.S.A.) has been the most hated country in the world for a while, this is not like a recent phenomenom. And what's more, except for when we really mess us (which seems oftern nowadays) we really don't care what anyone else thinks. Do you (non-Americans that is) really give crap when another country is dissatisfied with you. So, like always, America will be more than happy to show you a good time if you visit, and then when you're done, you can go back to your own country and tell all of your friends how America sucks and how horrible the people are, and how we're the scum of the earth, and then when you visit again, we'll greet you with open arms, like we always do. And if you really do hate America, and insist on badmouthing us, remember, and I say this in from the bottom of my American heart, we don't give a rats ass what you think.

Well, I just did a google search on "american inventors" and I'm not very impressed. Funny thing is, on one site even Albert Einstein was mentioned as an "American" inventor, and computer as an "American" invention.

Americans (I am one) are generally war- mongering money grubbing pieces of crap. Some of us are ok though.
A quick word to all of those who have given there displeasure about the U.S. you need to know that your resentment towards the U.S. is a common feeling among many Americans too. I don't know why my country invaded Iraq. I don't know what Bush is thinking (probably desperately trying to stay inside the lines while finishing up his coloring book), and I don't know why Bush thinks he can run this country while giving the finger to the rest of the world. I don't say that we are all stupid and arrogant and whatnot, because of course I know that's not true. I love my country, but right now there are a lot of problems with it. one is that people fail to educate themselves about anything that doesn't directly affect them, or in other words, that they can't see with their own eyes (World Politics, etc..). The other is the fact that we have a president who really doesn't care what the rest of the world thinks. You can't be a "global power" if you continue to ignore the ideas and opinions of other countries, especially our Allies, with Dubya has so kindly alienated from us as well. Hopefully in Nov. of '04, he'll be out and then our next president's job will be to try to mend all of the relationships with other countries that Dubya has ruined. P.S. All of the inventors were NOT from the U.S., many were, but there were also many others from elsewhere. One of our "greatest inventors" Thomas Edison, wasn't really the amazing inventor that everyojne says he was. he was just good at getting the patents for stuff to pass them off as his own. Another thing, you guys can talk all the shit about the U.S. that you want, doesn't bother me, because when you stop talking about something, that means you don't give a shit about it. It's nice to know all of you guys care. I'm touched.
Some great comments on here, America hasnt changed that much in the last twenty years - Being VERY late for the last two world wars - they're still trying to be really punctual for the next one. (That's if everything hasnt been franchised by then)

If you ask me, I love America but I hate the government. The politicians and corporations are the real reason we're in financial hell which is a sad but true example of bullshit. Also bullshit is marketed not only from these places but from other sources:teachers are full of shit, parents are full of shit, lawmen are full of shit, clergymen are full of shit, the news is full of shit and it makes me sick but its true. Now we americans love our bullshit to where we can get a good whiff of it straight out and up front which is why we elected and reelected Bill Clinton. He was full of shit but at least he let us know it. Bob Dole went and lied saying he was a simple honest man. Bullshit. Mezzy you were right and I was wrong. Franklin didn't invent light bulb. I found out that most credit for inventing light bulb should go to Humphry Davy, an English chemist. So Americans didn't invent light bulb either, I was wrong about that.

SAS, the electric light bulb that we use today was created in the US by Edison. I believe the first light bulb was gas powered, therefore not very practical, and that was invented by a European.
Mezzy, I thought too that it was Edison who invented it (I meant Edison when I typed Franklin), but now I know that it was Sir Humphry Davy who actually invented the first electric light bulb.

Someone could make an article that "prooves" Pope is really Napoleon, and I could paste it here, but would you believe it? You have to consider the source, who is posting it and why. You have to verify it and not just accept it because it supports your claims. Just because it's in the internet doesn't make it true. And large dose of information CAN be overdone. I don't "hate" anyone but having been invlolved in the travel industry,I have to say that Americans are as a group, completely ignorant of any place outside their own country. Their knowledge of world affairs or geography is almost non-exixtant. On the CBS Today show a few years ago, they had a group of high school kids place a marker on a blank (i.e. no boundaries) map of the world, as close to their home as possible. More than half placed the marker on Africa! Many placed theirs below the equator. Americans may graduate from College but their degrees will not get them jobs in many countries because the US standard is not high enough and they have to re-sit their final exams. Much like people who graduate from Indian universities (especially in medicine).
I'v also found them to be less than genuine, if you meet one abroad, they all say "you must come see me some time", if you do, they don't want to know about it.
They are also, too loud at times. I was once in a shop in Bangkok, when suddenly the shopkeeper ran to the door and put up the closed sign. He had heard Americans coming and didn't want them in his shop because they "hurt his ears"! Fortunately, they aren't ALL loud but an American restaurant is a much noisier place than one in any other country with the same number of people.

If you had bad experiences with American travelers, you are entitled to your opinion. But to say that the U.S. college education system has lower standards than the rest of the world is totally ludicrous. I challenge you to back up that statement with facts.
As far the lack of geography knowledge, aside from one National Geographic study, every Americans cant find America on a map story that I hear turns out to be classic Urban Legend. Everyone has heard the story, but nobody can cite the specifics.
I like the way that you conclude that US knowledge of geography is non exixstant b/c a few high school kids supposedly could not find their country on a map. Since when do a few kids represent an entire country?
...that said, I heard that Australia is a great country - I hope to visit one day. I'll try to behave.
