You know, these people who proudly display their national flag, even to a fault. And make a big deal about what country they're from, etc.

COMMENTS:
Unfortunately, those who make a big deal of it are not necessarily the ones who make the best patriots. In the USA, they are often the ones who don't really get what freedom is about - free speech, separation of church and state, people's inalienable rights, etc.

Great question.

To be proud of ones country and flag is one thing ,To be a Zealot, though is not to be patriotic at all

Generally the less educated the individual is the more likely they are to subscribe to jingoism and blind patriotism.

Real patriots demand that their leaders uphold the standards of a proud country. They don't blindly line up behind anyone with a title and lose their rationality when someone waves a flag.

These days, the word "patriot" often is synonomous with "sheep", displaying a willingness to follow a certain policy without thought. I'd also lengths to prove his/her "patriotism".

I'm indifferent until i can reach a conclusion by talking to the person as to why he is patriotic.

Most of you don't know what your talking about. Those are the things we enlisted and are fighting for. When you think of these things; Free speech, separation of church and state, inalienable rights. Try talking about these things in other countries and see what it gets you. Or should I say where it gets you.
