IS THERE A CONSPIRACY TO SILENCE THE LEFT?

[+] ballot by RobinGaylord

It's the middle of the election year and yesterday while watching the news I realized that I haven't heard a positive news story regarding John Kerry all year. When the story broke about George W. Bush lying in his speech about Iraq trying to purchase WMD's in Africa the phrase "Who should be held accountable for this 'mistake'?" was asked over and over. Well I know that in the business world if an employee makes a mistake or fucks up on purpose that his supervisor catches some flack for it. I guess the President has a special set of rules regarding his actions. Early in the Democratic primary when Howard Dean was the front-runner the media spin was taking advantage of a poll the showed George W. Bush defeating him by a couple of points. The media kept asking “Is it wise to elect a man who can’t beat the republican incumbent?” This was harped on until Howard Dean lost the Caucus and during a speech he gave regarding his defeat the media jumped all over his passionate reveling and labeled him a madman. Until the last election I never witnessed a close race before and most of the time the media spent more time joking about whoever was losing had no chance to win and that it seemed so pointless to vote for them. Yes, I admit even in the case of Bob Dole. I have a suspicion that once a candidate has most of the special interests and corporate fat cats in his corner then it seems as if he has the election wrapped up and in this case it was wrapped up before the democratic candidate was elected. Is there a conspiracy to silence the left?

Yes
No

COMMENTS:
They do whatever they can to silence the left, the poor, the common working men and women, the Libertarians, the Greens, the Reform party, the Independents, etc. The numbers just don't reach their target demographic.

Apparently it got your attention, Guest, or you wouldn't have responded so strongly. How 'bout taking a few deep breaths?

Great ballot, by the way.

Media is more of a liberal entity by nature. So no, there is no insidious right wing plot to silence the left. It is politics as usual, and whoever holds the most funds holds the broadcast power.Demos sometimes have this over the repubs and vise-versa.The bush machine just happens to be quite adept at campaign organization and funding...where as the Democratic party seems to have some organization issues with the campaign so far. And in response to your remarks in the question explanation...both Kerry and Dean have alot going against them as far as being a target for the other side. The left has been bitching so incredibly much lately, many people are really getting put off by it...maybe the media has picked up on that and is changing format slightly as a result of this. And if you were of a more conservative persuassion and someone was trying to tear you down, wouldn't you try and do what was in your power to silence them aswell?

not a conspiracy, a desperation :D
by x__ on Wed Jun 02, 04 9:58pm [+]

the left has silenced people on the right for years. All the major networks and media are controlled by a huge majority of leftists. 88% left in the major news media.
by xxxxxxxx on Thu Jun 03, 04 12:20am [+]

have you watched any TV news lately? it's all effing SOLD OUT, you needn't be so bitter about leftists controlling any network news media, relax and watch your TV :D

WTF??
by mojo on Thu Jun 03, 04 9:35am [+]

A formal conspiracy? No. But there *is* a concerted effort by various members of the Far Right and Religious Right to "take over the (perceived) Liberal Media." In addition, communication outlets are being assimilated at an alarming rate. More owners tend towards conservative bias; and owners control the money, so they directly or indirectly control content. The last three years has been especially bad. The Far Right successfully got people to believe Nationalism was Patriotism and used that fallacy to browbeat anyone who disagreed.

You know when I made this poll I seriously thought that I should restrict comments to registered members, but then I realized that none of the conservatives would have the balls to register on this site and comment publicly. I was right.

Guest_f08f9 - Al Frankin's "fact checkers" are students at Harvard. Thanks for the compliment.

There is no conspiracy, the left has television hollywood, and the music industry, the right has fox news and AM radio.
by whitemike3 on Wed Jul 07, 04 12:21am [+]

The Left controls Hollywood, almost every major newspaper, all the major networks ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, and the majority of music industry.
Sounds like a conspiracy to silence to me.

Cathexis. A concerted effort by a group of people to achieve a result that most aren't informed about is a conspiracy.
by cretin_slap on Fri Oct 15, 04 7:20am [+]

I hope so.

Everything that's wrong with America can clearly be seen on Hannity and Colmes. Read Al Franken's book.
by zootoboot on Sun Oct 31, 04 9:01pm [+]

The left cannot be silenced. They will do or say anything a lie is fairgame if someone will believe it.and if they tell enough of them somenieve soul may believe one.

Well, if they're lying, can you tell us, enlightened one, what in the Hell has gone right in Iraq? People claim that the left lies, but what has gone right?
by aya on Thu Nov 11, 04 11:35am [+]

cretin: Perhaps. I view it as a matter of 'degree.'

Then again, I have evolved my opinion on this question. After seeing teh antics of the past 5 years, I have to change mya nswer -- yes, I do believe there is a conspiracy against the Left. Further, I believe it has been decades in the making.
