SHOULD WE HAVE A UNIVERSAL NATIONAL HEALTH CARE SYSTEM IN THE USA?

[+] ballot by Universal_President

It would be nice to pay taxes and actually get something directly for your money. Since I have no health insurance that would be nice. Every year I see nothing directly for the money I pay in taxes. Yeah I know the roads, chump change social security, schools and all that crap! Whoopdy do!!!! I'm not a senior and have no kids. A national health insurance system where you can choose what doctor, or hospital you want. Also regulations over the health care industry are needed. Those greedy bastards like to charge $50 for a freakin bandage!

COMMENTS:
We should have a health care system based on income if your poor you should have to pay nothing if you middle class then you should have to only pay a small amount but if you rich you should pay for everything millionaires should not get free healthcare

Despite what Bliar and his government are doing to the NHS it is still something to be proud of. It treats all people as equally deserving of health care. Prince Edward's baby was recently born in an NHS hospital after an emergency. He wasn't at the birth though. I don't know if he was at the reception.

We have the option of private healthcare in Britain. This invariably gets you better, faster treatment in well-equipped private clinics.
But the National Health Service provides free healthcare - ranging from Accident & Emergency right up to brain & eye surgery - for *everyone*, not only those that can afford it. Ambulance & emergency helicopter transportation is also free, if required.

MY wife had a cataract removed two weeks ago. Today I received a bill from the hospital that lists:
Drugs 778.75
Med/Surg.Supplies 489.00
Med/Surg.Supplies 292.50
Operating Room 3,834.25
Anesthesia Supplies 118.50
Recovery Room 151.oo
These charges do not include the doctor or the Anesthetists bills.

The prescription drugs bill was estimated to cost $400 billion. The real cost will probably be much higher than that because Americans seem to think they have a right to immortality.

I live in the UK where health care is free for everyone. It might not be perfect system, but it is better than having no health care. We also have free prescriptions for those who are poor and we have a medical staff that works because they are dedicated and not for how much it pays. Believe me, you would have to be dedicated to work for the money our nurses get paid.

The USA may have the best equipment and drugs, but when 40 million of your citizens are without any health care, it does not bode well for the future.

Until the Americans recognise that socialism is the only road for the working class, and they stop believing what the right wing media are feeding them, the US will soon be the victim of a second civil war.
