COMMENTS:
modern farming is terrible, the way my grandparents treated their animals was humane, their cows had names, were not branded. The chickens were free range, now days they have no respect for the animals or the land for that matter, no wonder there is all these dieases now.

Yes - not only the cruelty, but it's terrible for the environment. It's another example of big business corruption. The family farm is rapidly becoming a thing of the past.

actually, ABC, branding has been going on for hundreds of years with animals, it's not as inhumane as you might think. however, I'm a big supporter of small family farms and coops and a staunch opponent of big farm businesses
Hey Jappy, I worked on farms when I was a teenager, I think branding is very inhumane ear tags are not. The worst thing we did was caterating, spash the balls with iodine, cut open the sack then cut out the balls, very inhumane. I hated that job.

I agree -- it hurts both the environment and the economy.
I've seen boxes of chickens stacked up, some of them had broken legs, they spend their life in a metal box, stacked up. And pigs are kept in little pens where they can't turn around. You can't really call that 'farm'ing though. After the chicken thing it was a real long time before I could eat meat.
