I agree with you smiling_is_better, Communication and trust are the main things though I think love is very important too.
My girlfriend's Mom and Stepdad show no signs of love, have akwardly admitted they don't have sex while i'm present, and argue almost constantly. So i'm convinced love, communication, and sex are not as key as I woulda thought. He does make a good paycheck though...
