Grapost, are you nuts? When here father told her over the loud speaker in the hospital that they were gonna starve her to death, she cried out and tried to get up! She is a bloody human being! NOT AN ANIMAL! Lucky Jeb Bush stepped in and stopped this atrocity in time.
Grapost, try renting the movie "Awakening" starting Robin Williams and Robert De Niro. There are literally thousands of people living in this world in so called "vegetative state" who can wake up, given the right medicine.

Grapost, my opinion is based on Science, not hollywood movies. The movie was based on the comatose encephalitis patients in the 1960's being treated with L-dopa, which brought those people "awakenings" if only for a few months. While I can refer you to several scienfic journals, I thought the movie would make the point. Try renting it sometime. or try searching the web for "Dr. Malcolm Sayer".

Sadly, the Christian extremists have made a "crusade" out of this and the whole thing is really not about her rights any more. It's nothing but free publicity for pro-life fanatics who are unabashedly pushing a political agenda. They have turned this sad event into a political circus.
There are no documented cases of someone having her affliction recovering after six months (and even then with severe disabilities). Terri Schiavo has been in a persistent vegetative state for 13 YEARS!! It is sad a maybe hard to swallow but her life is over and she is better off dead.
Her husband, while thoroughly vilified by religious extremists, is still her husband. I have never been married but I do believe the bond between husband and wife is very significant. The Christians are once again contradicting themselves. What of the sanctity of marriage?
The movie you saw is about one case. While I'm sure it was an inspiring story, does it represent the majority of vegetative state cases? Terry Schiavo didn't deserve to be a vegetable but unfortunately she is.
hmmm. the movie I saw was about a group of people 30+, and while I understand the bond between the wife and husband, what about the bond between daughter and her parents? her parents are dead set against it. While I am furthest from being a pro lifer, I have seen severly handicapped people in hospitals, and many are in worse condition than terri. I also saw her husband on Larry King, saying that tthere is NO INSURANCE, so I may be wrong there. He further says that the parents offered him 700000 dollars to "walk away" and he refused. The encephalitis patients who were treated with L-dopa had a unique perspective on the vegetative state - they said they saw things happen around them but they couldn't respond. I wouldn't want to be in that state, and them starving me to death. If anything, humain thing would be to give me an overdose of medication so htat I can pass quickly.

LCD. Would your opinon be different if the cost of keeping her alive was going to bankrupt you? Force you to sell your home and belongings because the insurance payments ran out. And you were forced to move in with your parents? Have your wages attached to pay the huge debt you now have. And the debt keeps getting bigger everyday because the cost exceeds your ability to pay it. What choice would you make? Would choose the life of a Pauper? Her life has already been ruined. Would you be willing to let this ruin your life? AN HONEST ANSWER PLEASE!
Hey PC93. Michael Shiavo's insurance company is NOT going to pay the medical bills for Terry forever. Since you want to keep Terry alive, is YOU OR YOUR organization willing pay her medical bills? Of course you aren't because your a HYPORCRITE!
Just like the Anti-Abortionist. You want to FORCE your choice on others but don't want to ASSUME any of the responsiblities that go with that choice. Well I ask you. IS YOUR ORGANIZATION WILLING TO PAY FOR TERRY'S CARE AFTER THE INSURANCE RUNS OUT? Or are you only interested in seeing Michael Schiavo ending up bankrupt and destitute?
