Alleviate the fear of your impending death, and give a sense of purpose to explain all the bad things that happen in your life. And it's a good source of revenue.

I think it's really a matter of us making God out to be what we want God to be. Making ourselves God, in effect.

man did not invent God. there are too many atheist deviants with warped thoughts on this site.

if there was no God, then there would not be any athiests.

If there wasn't a God, why does Jesus cause such a strong reaction in atheists? If there wasn't, you really shouldn't go on so much about it. Some atheists would make people believe in God because they make such a big thing out of trying to prove there isn't. It proves there is power in God because of your reaction. DITTO!

Man, and women for that matter, needs to be led. It's our nature. We need leaders. And there are people who need the ultimate leader. So they invent someone higher then a king, higher then a pope, higher then anyone else. A magical invisible being who lives in the clouds and like playing pranks on us.

Tidbits From The Jewish Talmud:

Moed Kattan 17a . If a Jew is tempted to do evil he should go to a city where he is not known and do the evil there.

Non-Jews are Not Human Baba Mezia 114a-114b. Only Jews are human ("Only ye are designated men").

Also see Kerithoth 6b under the sub-head, "Oil of Anointing" and Berakoth 58a in which Gentile women are designated animals ("she-asses").

Jews are Divine, Sanhedrin 58b. If a heathen (Gentile) hits a Jew, the Gentile must be killed. Hitting a Jew is the same as hitting God.

O.K. to Cheat Non-Jews, Sanhedrin 57a . A Jew need not pay a Gentile ("Cuthean") the wages owed him for work.

Jews Have Superior Legal Status, Baba Kamma 37b. "If an ox of an Israelite gores an ox of a Canaanite there is no liability; but if an ox of a Canaanite gores an ox of an Israelite...the payment is to be in full."

Jews May Steal from Non-Jews, Baba Mezia 24a . If a Jew finds an object lost by a Gentile ("heathen") it does not have to be returned. (Affirmed also in Baba Kamma 113b).

Sanhedrin 76a . God will not spare a Jew who "marries his daughter to an old man or takes a wife for his infant son or returns a lost article to a Cuthean..."

Jews May Rob and Kill Non-Jews, Sanhedrin 57a . When a Jew murders a Gentile ("Cuthean"), there will be no death penalty. What a Jew steals from a Gentile he may keep.

Baba Kamma 37b. Gentiles are outside the protection of the law and God has "exposed their money to Israel."

That's some real concrete scientific proof you've pointed out there. All the scientists worldwide will be up in arms now.

*grins* That they shall....

Although honestly, if you were atheist and people kept trying to force their religion, their customs and their beliefs on you, wouldn't you get a tad agitated at the mention of the 'christian poster boy'?

...and how many atheists have you really talked to about this pray tell?

Why is it so hard for some to believe in God? Honestly i have been wondering this for a while now!
by Kisty on Fri Nov 26, 04 6:18pm [+]

it's not an inability kisty. non-believers may have not been brought up in a way that promotes belief in a deity, or perhaps reached the conclusion that God is unnecessary to explain the universe. Or he simply doesn't feature in their lives: "if someone wants to believe in god that's their business"

Why is it so hard for some to NOT believe in God? Honestly i have been wondering this for a while now!
by xxxxxxxx on Sat Nov 27, 04 9:11pm [+]

similar thing, choasad. people do believe in god because (for example) they were raised to do so, reached the conclusion that God is necessary for the universe etc. God features in believers' lives; so He, or It (or they??) is a very real aspect to them.

I've seen so many atheists trying to convince believers that there is no god, and vice versa. very very rarely does it ever have an effect: in fact the only times I'm aware of someone switching sides as it were, is through their own experiences or reasoning or research.

Religious tolerance is the key, for me. typically, people are going to believe or not believe regardless of what we tell them, so we should accept it. By all means engage in rational debate, there's no better way to develop your own understanding than by arguing it imho

Tao can be talked about, but not the Eternal Tao. Names can be named, but not the Eternal Name. As the origin of heaven-and-earth, it is nameless; As "the Mother" of all things, it is nameable. So, as ever hidden, we should look at its inner essence; As always manifest, we should look at its outer aspects. These two flow from the same source, though differently named; and both are called mysteries. The Mystery of mysteries is the Door of all essence.

Duh, it's most of the above. "God" is such a useful little tool that it's no wonder the concept has been perpetuated for so long that it still exists in our intellectually advanced society.

Voted : To control the masses
I think personally that atheism is created by man because of the fact that there is no truth or fact I should say that the bible is true. It tells you every thing you should and shouldn't do, and for such reasons it appeals to me that it could be made by some man so far back that we may not know about it. Also the fact it seems as if it was some way to control the people to make some one obey or they will have an punishable death. For all we know when we die we could move and so on and so. So atheism is basically to set yourself free and not live life in fear as to what you will do wrong. I think we should live life with out the fear and knowing or think you know or following rules of something we might not even know is true. That is what I know that is what I think.
