We're told "Caveat Emptor" ... buyer beware. But our consumer choices are only as good as the information we receive.
Today's advertising wants to persuade us to buy, but have they crossed the line in their tactics? Are you aware of marketing tactics being used?
Question: Which marketing/advertising tactics are the most objectionable?
Bandwagon technique (e.g., Everyone else has one)
Celebrity endorsement (e.g., Be like Mike)
Appealing to fear (e.g., Social pariah, burden to your children, etc.)
Lifestyle appeal (e.g., Buy this car to be cool)
Outright lies (e.g., "Delicious!" when it tastes like a chem lab experiment)
Technical truths (e.g., "Nothing better" = "As good as anything else out there&qu
Omissions of fact (e.g., Multi-year contract required)
Scrolling fine print
Unrelated sexual imagery
Movie tie-ins
Sheer volume
Oldies music to appeal to a certain age group
They all suck
skewed graphs and charts
Product will get you laid. (All beer commercials)
Overuse the cute kids to soften your defenses
