COMMENTS:
I think that very smart AND very stupid people are the most prone to insanity.
that pretty much sums it up nuckin. if I might add to that, the most intelligent people seem to have so much going on in their head that maybe it's just a little too much to deal with. Einstein was thought by many to be insane, in fact, he couldn't ever remember where his house was, so his wife had to drive him to and from work. Hitler was a genius, but it's doubtful anyone would think he was actually sane. However, his public speaking ability, his incredible ability to sway the masses, was his genius. NOTE: that doesn't make him a good person do don't misinterperate this statement. On the other hand, those who are less intelligent probably have more difficulty dealing with everyday situations because their lack of intellect makes it difficult to understand what is going on, and their actions based on interpretations of those situations are hardly sane.
Just occurred to me is there any correlation between race and craziness? Statistics anyone?
People who are extremely intelligent tend to go into cognitively demanding fields. Anyone who has ever spent a considerable amount of time doing math can tell you that it takes its toll. My friends (in engineering) and I have all experienced insomnia from doing math all day. I've been told that I sometimes state formulas in my sleep, "pv = nrt". Theoretical physicists may also have this problem; that field is highly symbolic and often anti-intuitive. Ever try to picture a hypercube?
I like the backhanded way you place yourself amongst the " extremely intelligent" group there lol Very slick :) I assume when you talk of a hypercube you mean a four dimensional cube? Strangely enough i was talking to my brother about that the other day, and yes its a complete mind fuck :)
After reading Hyperspace by Michio Kaku, I tried to picture a hypercube daily for about a year. Naturally I could never get beyond the "reflections" of the hypercube into 3D. Imaginary numbers are also a brain bender, especially when they're associated with real things.
We the Very Smart tend toward insanity because we can get to the crux of problems with such ease, while You the Average plod about with such skill that We go CLOSE to NUTS trying to point out how EASY the road to the solution is, then draw back and realize that You are Only Average, until the NEXT TIME, when the cycle begins anew... YES, I KNOW that my words seem at worst ELITIST. I've spent a lot of time trying NOT to lord my intellect over those less gifted, but the past few years have made it increasing ly harder for me to hold myself in reserve. I tend to lay it on the table more than I used to. If it offends, I beg your forgiveness. But I don't plan on throttling back any time soon...
You spend to much time on the internet....
:)
Everyone *does* know that the previous statement was in humor, right?
