AMERICANS : HOW MANY LANGUAGES CAN YOU SPEAK?

[+] ballot by LCD
created Tue Oct 28, 03

We americans are accused by others of uncultured, being self-centered and ignorant. I think otherwise. As an example, tell us how many languages you can speak (not just a few words but enough to get by) If you like, tell us what languages you speak in the comment area.

The only language I'm fluent in is English. I know some French, enough to carry on a conversation with a 5 year old...lol...no...enough to get by semi-okay :) But we definitely need a better education system in regards to languages. In other countries they begin to learn foreign languages when they are very young...here we wait until high school when it is a log harder to learn languages.

I only speak one but then again, it isn't really that important to me. That being said I don't really think that means I'm ignorant, I'd wager to bet that I'm better educated than most who speak more than one language.

The site messed up my symbols: espanol with a tilde over the n and ingles with an accent mark over the e.
by Wark on Tue Dec 09, 03 9:05am [+]

And that should be espanol e ingles, not espanol y ingles, since ingles begins with an I. I'm still working on my Spanish, so bare with me.

The U.S. has tens of millions of immigrants, nearly all at least bilingual. For instance, California alone has a population with millions who can speak English along with Chinese, Spanish, Japanese, and many other languages.
