DO YOU THINK THAT WE ARE LIVING IN A WORLD OF CONTROLLED ECONOMIC SLAVERY?

[+] serious ballot by Alien_Invader
created Mon Aug 02, 04

There was a time when slaves were bound in chains for fear of them escaping and their Masters losing Profits due to the loss of slaves.
The Masters of these slaves grew rich, greedy and fat on the toil and misery they inflicted on these poor innocent people.
Now our world has developed and and the Rich, Greedy Bankers, Big Corporations and some of the so called upstanding members of our so called Civilized World know that we cannot escape from the Earth and have global policing to track anyone down.
The chains of iron have gone, but only to be replaced with the dollar (hence the term "Economic Slavery")

Yes
No
Yes we are and I don't like it
No, you don't know what you're talking about
Yes and I love living in Economic Slavery
No, I think we are all free to do as we please
Yes and it needs to be stopped
No, but I'm ignorant and stupid

Excellent question. I was just reading about this issue last night. There's a new book out called The Status Syndrome by Michael Marmot. The review is so fascinating that I'm going to fork over the money to buy it.

I quite agree. Visible steel chains have been replaced by intangible ones wrought of greed, consumerism, controlled access to income and distribution, and rank propoganda (e.g., class war is what lower classes create when they talk of inequities).

Excellent point. I am sure someone will rebut, asserting that Life is a Meritocracy and all one has to do to become one of these Masters is work extra hard.

Oh yes ... that is yet another powerful chain. Or did I cover that under "Greed?"
by Cathexis on Tue Aug 03, 04 8:59am [+]

Yes Cathexis, I have seen many slaves work extra hard and yet still get no much gain for their toil, much to be paid out on bills whilst they work themselves into their graves.
The economic systems of most nations which have been manipulated by greedy Banks and Big corporations are structured in such a way so as to keep the average persons from ever acquiring wealth sufficient to ease the burdens on their lives which so often have been imposed upon them by the greedy rich.
This is just one reason why big cities are encouraged to grow as a lot of money is generated in a concentrated area which suits the purposes of the rich just fine, but in reality, we are better off with a lot of smaller towns and smaller businesses which distribute the wealth of a nation more evenly.

My take on it
The lost brother returning home combined with the transpersonal psychological analysis of the universal child who either experences himself in a moment of revelation as being himself and no other or to be serialised, absorbed and massified, thus centralising and objectifying the world around themselves in centripetal socio-cultic sense and thus continue the process..To destroy themselves in order to protect themselves. To become the 2 year old 50 year old economic dictator.
"the inner corruption of liberty shows itself first in uniformity"- montesquieu
You may have seen films like the Emerald Forest where the white boy is brought up in the rainforest. The presumption of the industrial whitey father after finding him is that he would return home i.e. back into urban TV land which is perceived as normal.Aborigines used to say (maybe still do) that when a white guy came from civilisation out to where they were that he had come from the wilderness. That civilisation was the wilderness.A fear was expressed in Dances With Wolves by the soldiers that Costner would "become Indian".What civilised people are afraid of is finding out something about themeselves "Out there" . Colonialists do what they feel is normal and cannot see the bars of their cage but they are also very frightened and dont really know the true nature of fear. The ongoing invasions from europe to bury the whole planet in a globalised underworld reminiscent of the Cat in red dwarf will end with coming to the surface again. The alien world that Heston is standing on in the apes movie is this one.Earth

In the physical world each component of a pair of forces can only attain 96% of its boundary or extreme condition.once this point is reached , then its opposite force gradually begins to gain strength .In the creation of a vacuum , there is always a residual 4% left of the medium to be evacuated , a figure that can only be further reduced by an enormous expenditure of energy ; 100% -4% = 96% Chaos and Order = 1 without chaos ( undifferentiated , unstructured matter or energy, or unordered ,unmetamorphosed unconditional love) there could be no basis for the creation of order ) differentiated harmonically-structured matter or energy.
There can be no state of stable equilibrium which would signify immobility , uniformity and stasis.if this were so neither development or evolution would be possible and the condition of the universe would be unchanging and unproductive. The shit'll possibly hit the fan or it may not.But Shambala -( the inner kingdom .Not geographical space-time) is about to be Realized.
by bigmonkeynuts on Tue Aug 03, 04 11:04am [+]

When the medieval underworlders made it into India and tibet many soldiers were reporting back miraculous things relating to apparently physical 3 D universe..Personal revelations , NDE type of self-realisation etc. This has long been cultured out and genrall y supressed again but the turn of the century had even Industrial giants talking of true revolution (free energy ( technology Tesla etc) and so on.There was political rebellion, Unionists striking ,workers marching with a spirit of comaraderie described at the time as unprecedented. Art and music began to flourish. This was all deliberately undermined by the fake concocted war known as WW1. The spirit culminated with the famous christmas soccer match when the allies and german soldiers refused to go on with the war. They were ultimately shipped out , replaced and the fake war continued.
A possible idea is that the march of civilization is the attempt to make it back to "heaven".Hitler and napolean perhaps unconsciously trying to infiltrate Russia or being driven North where the legends say belovodia ( shangri-la ) is) .This is what haappened with the British . Rome is like a collective unconscious expression of the impenetrable gates of heaven. etc

by Da_Chicago_Jigalo on Tue Aug 03, 04 2:01pm [+]

yeah, I see that. If we believe we're in control of our lives we will be good happy hard working citizens. When you look at life from a distance though, we control nothing. In fact most of the money we work for every day is in the form of 1's and 0's on computers.

Sad Sad stuff. Ah well, back to work. Fuck!
by Tommo on Tue Aug 03, 04 3:24pm [+]

We'll all be slaves if the socialists have their way.
by thc2883 on Tue Aug 03, 04 5:23pm [+]

Very good ballot, we are still living in a world were people in other poor nations are fighting for freedom while we are here eating very expensive food, wasting and yet some are slaving, I think the world will continue living in controlled economic slavery as it was in the begining :-(
by Nadia on Wed Aug 04, 04 4:06am [+]

As long we don't believe that this system somehow defines us as individuals or societies. It is the creation of a relatively few people. And it has taken many years for it to slowly take hold on us so that now it takes a bit of thought to realise just how unfair it is.

We're more advanced than the old slaves. Slaves probably had a bit of their own money. We are all massively in debt.
by cretin_slap on Wed Aug 04, 04 8:23am [+]

Massively in debt is right cretin_slap and is just the way they like it. For this very reason credit cards are promoted by banks and financial institutions.
What a good way to keep slaves by keeping them in debt and a constant stream of bills to pay, some of which we could do without.
