Patriotism is a feeling, or an attitude, not a group of people.
When it uses other nations and/or peoples as an excuse for their own failings.

When it's used as an excuse to deny others their Constitutional Rights.

I think its when you start insulting other nations and tell them they are inferior to your own and refuse to listen to other cultures abd learn from them.
patriotism is a base, feeling for simple people. it is safe only until people start to use this feeling to persuade people that their actions should be affected by their pride in the love of their country.

When the person chooses to blindly follow a government in power and does not step back and judge how this fits in with the principles of that nation. Thats when patriotism gives way to nationalism. And that is when it goes wrong.
