The Moors (from North Africa) invaded and conquered Spain in 711 AD and Islam was practiced for several hundred centuries. It wasn't until after 1290's that the Spaniards fought back wanting to get rid of Islam and the Muslims from their country. The Spaniards forced Muslims to leave or be killed.
Finally in 1492, Queen Isabella and King Ferinand won and no Muslims were allowed to live in Spain.
Currently, Spain is a deeply religious nation who believe in Christianity. They sure won't go back to being a Muslim nation. I'm glad they fought back.

Is Turkey really going to be admitted into the EU? The vast majority of Europeans don't want them, they're not European in any sense of the word.
The only countries keen to see Turkey in the EU are Turkey and the USA.
Interesting fact for you Herzog. France suffered about 600,000 military casualties in WWII, the USA suffered about 600,000 casualties in WWII as well, but mostly fighting Japan. Heretic, I did know that. And seeing as how it's their country they were defending those casualties should have been much higher. Had the US been invaded we would have fought to the last man. Same with britain, and the same with russia. Here's a fact for you: a small band of jewish rebels in warsaw held off the germans longer than the entire french army.
Fair comment. I think had there been an invasion of Britain the casualties would have been higher too (that didn't include civilians). However, if it's death or pragmatism I think I'd go with pragmatism when it was clear we were beaten. More like the French than the Japanese at the end of the day.
The Vietnamese suffered 2 million deaths defending their country. I wonder if today their descendants would consider it worth the sacrifice. I suspect they would.

Heretic: if the nazis were on the border I'd rather die than let them take over my country. Had the french fought tooth and nail, as the soviets did, they could have inflicted serious casualties on the germans, slowed down their progress and probably helped to end the war much sooner. Hell, if they'd done their job and seen to it that german never rearmed they whole thing never would have happened. But they didn't, and as a result more americans had to die to fix another european blunder. You can see why many americans don't hold the french in such high esteem.
...even though the French army was a major factor in winning American independance from the British. So many Americans are so quick to throw cheap shots at the French whenever they get the chance, while forgetting that the Americans were indebted to the French much longer than the other way around. Why ruin a long friendship?
And immediately following the war for independence they demanded we pay tribute in order to keep relations 'peaceful'. The XYZ affair, look it up. The french were grudging allies who showed up several years late, and immediately turned on us once we'd won. And that was both the first and the last time the french helped us in the slightest. Now if you want a list of the times we've helped them out I could give it to you, but it is somewhat longer. Any debt we may have once owed them has been long since repaid, and now they're they ones who owe us.

Britain should be because we are being overun by pakis and other assorted moslem scum. However they will eventually be turned back into the sea, which is what they deserve. The American figure is closer to 400,000 than 600,000. Britain,Russia,France, Poland,Italy,Japan,Germany,not to mention British Empire/commonwealth forces,other Axis powers Hungary etc, the Chinese,yugoslavians, Greeks, and ive probably left out a whole lot more.
