IS POLITICAL CORRECTNESS SYNONYMOUS WITH NOT TELLING THE TRUTH?

[+] ballot by Doctordraw
created Sun Aug 08, 04

Is it a euphemism for hiding what you are really thinking? And not revealing your true feelings through your choice of words? Wouldnt it be better to ask WHY people use ( or want to use) the sort of general stereotypes and name-calling that political correctness attacks so aggressively? Rather than just forcing people to HIDE their true feelings, so as not to offend people?

yes, political correctness forces people to lie
Yes, the term political correctness woudlnt even EXIST unless people had to hide their feelings
no
For some
It's like slopping gravy over dry meatloaf

Who said anything about thinking negatively? Maybe something positive would happen if people could speak (and others could listen to) the truth for a change..
by Doctordraw on Sun Aug 08, 04 7:09pm [+]

For some, it undoubtedly is.

Some take the concept to an extreme. Soem never developed an appreciation for what the effort was meant to address.

However, in spite of teh PC extremists, it seems to me that most who decry PC do so because they don't want to be held to account, even if they hurt others.

Our moon is the only moon that gets a 'The' in front of it. That's how special it is.

Cathexis

"The truth hurts". This is real life and its not always nice, until we all move to smurf land thats the way it is.

Also "no pain no gain"

and " to make an ommelette you have to break some eggs"

and "through strife comes progress"

Im not the only one who has thought so it appears... :)

So 'Guest', not thinking what you're told to think makes you a 'hater'? If I don't agree with your perspective I must be evil.... Hmmm... where have I heard this sort of thing before?
by Heretic on Tue Aug 10, 04 12:35pm [+]

Being 'politically incorrect' isn't about 'name calling' and 'hating', it's about thinking for yourself and being honest with yourself and others. A brave thing to do when you can lose your job when the PC Thought Police get to hear about it.

Political Correctness will cause thousands more to die from terrorist attacks, unless we stop worrying about hurting Muslim's feelings. I call for racial profiling immediatly.

Political Correctness is the enemy of free speech.
by SYFL101 on Fri Aug 13, 04 10:34am [+]

It's a method of controlling freedom of expression and suppressing truth. Truth needs no protection from lies. Lies and feeble ideas are vulnerable to the truth.

by Cathexis on Thu Sep 16, 04 1:34pm [+]

Thanks fo rthe list of platitudes, but they don't really strike me as germane.

People are eggs and you have to "break a few" for whatyou call Progress?

That doesn't sound right, to me.
by Cathexis on Thu Sep 16, 04 1:35pm [+]

IMO, most who decry "Political Correctness" are merely bitching because people aren't laughing when they're cruel to others.
by Cathexis on Thu Sep 16, 04 1:36pm [+]

Cathexis, political correctness is actually incidents such as a co-worker of mine being fired for saying "the puerto ricans don't wipe thier feet" in a private/yet overheard conversation when in fact they were tracking mud in after being told not to do so.Since he was the guy who had to babysit these slobs he merely identified WHO was doing it when asked and labelled them as such only because he didn't know thier names. He was not a "racist" by any stretch but since the word "racist" carries much weight in the public arena he lost a good paying job of which he was a good worker.I thought that was pretty lousy.
