i can't believe this issue has never been brought up. the cruelty of circuses never really occurred to me, but yes, they should be banned.
The cruelty involved in transporting animals around can't really be justified for entertainment.
On top of mistreating the animals they have those evil clowns running around frightening the children.
I don't think they should be banned outright but they need to change.
The last circus I went to was a few months ago here in Italy, and it was truly disgusting: The animals were obviously traumatized and the handlers (human performers) didn't even bother to disguise the fact that the whip was a favorite primary training tool when the animals didn't respond to their stupid commands. I vowed then and there that I'd never go to a circus that exploited animals again, nor would I take my child or any other child to a circus to see this kind of inane and obscene 'entertainment'. Human circuses are OK, though, imo. I'd rather see muscular acrobats in tight white tights any day. ;)

Yes they should be banned.
The best thing you can do is get on the PETA web site and learn about the terrible abuse these hideous circuses inflict on the animals in their shows. Then protest the next time a circus comes to your area. Use pamphlets and posters. PETA will help you out.

Yes, although this brings up the issue that Zoo's may be considered to be jails for animals. Matbe they should be banned as well.
If no one attended these circus/zoo venues, then they will simply disappear. It's not the venue, it's the people that patronize them.
I've never taken my daughter to a circus or a zoo and have always explained to her why it's wrong.
