DO YOU TEND TO BACK DOWN FROM AN ARGUMENT IF YOUR VIEWS ARE RIDICULED OR UNPOPULAR?

[+] serious ballot by zig
created Tue Aug 17, 04

The herd instinct can be quite overpowering, but do you stick to your convictions and stay the course during a debate, or do you bite your tongue and pipe down so as not to look too 'different'?

No, I stick to my convictions to the bitter end
I stick to my convictions unless I am proved wrong
Yes, I back down and stay quiet if my views are unpopular
My views are never controversial
I shut up and go post a blog about them.

Yes, the tactical retreat is the wisest and best option here.

Alien_Invader, I can't believe you said that! Is someone else using your user name? ;o)

I change my beliefs when that route seems to take me closer to truth.

As for debates ... depends upon the nature of those involved. While I may not change beliefs, I also won't continue smacking my head against a wall -- especially if others involved aren't worth my time.

#2. Good question.

I don't debate because I am here to have fun. I'm also pretty stubborn. But any opinion I do care to voice, I will stand by... unless I was drunk and don't remember. ;)

I back out of debates if my views aren't unpopular. But that's probably just me.

Must be that german blood, makes you ornery.
by herzog on Tue Aug 17, 04 2:42pm [+]

You back out of debates if your views aren't UNPOPULAR, herzog? Sure you don't have some Scottish blood as well? We Scots are pretty ornery, too. :)
by zig on Tue Aug 17, 04 4:29pm [+]

I'm about half scottish and half german, so yeah, I'm pretty argumenative.
by herzog on Wed Aug 18, 04 12:05am [+]

Explosive mixture. :)

if your views are never controversial, you really should learn to think for yourself

That was a ballot choice I made to go along with the others.

If I know I'm on the right side of the issue, no pun intended, I will never submit.
by lowerclassbrats on Sun Aug 22, 04 2:07pm [+]

Everybody should know that I do just by looking at my user name and my past comments.
