COMMENTS:
It would be nice, but I think that crashes in fish population will be one of the first major repercussions Man will feel for being irresponsible with the environment. Although I'm sure Business will seek a different scapegoat.
The fishing industry needs to change its methods. They still use drift nets, which are disgracefully wasteful ... a huge percentage of creatures caught and killed in drift nets are thrown back into the ocean as garbage.

What do you think fish would smell like if women didn't swim?
mojo: True! I believe many species of sea turtles are endangered for just this reason.
Ricky Waters is boycotting the Fish.
EXCELLENT idea, but will it swim? :)
If we wiped out 90% of the worlds fish I think that'd make the news, what with the mass deaths do to starvation. Mabye a little bit of hyperbole? Just a bit?
it did make the news 10 years ago, herzog

Do you have a source?
The World Bank: http://www. worldbank.org/ html/cgiar/ newsletter/ May96/ 5ifpri.html Diver magazine: http://www. divernet.com/ news/stories/ fishstocks 150503.shtml FAO Fisheries department: http://fao.org /DOCREP/ 003/X9066E / x9066e01.htm Lobe, Jim. *Environment: Declining Fish Stocks Threaten Protein of the Poor,* 31 Oct., 2002 A quick Google search will show up more.
Those articles pointed out that 90% of specific species of fish had been wiped out since the 50s, not all fish.
do you honestly think we have not had a huge inpact, have you ever talked to a fisherman, have you seen picures of tuna from the 60's compared to now, wake up and smell the coffee herzog, why do you argue about everything?

I never said we haven't had an impact. I was pointing out that 'we've wiped out 90% of the fish on earth' is an exaggeration, and it is. Those articles pointed out only a few species of fish that have been affected, NOT EVERY SPECIES, which is what you stated.
What about saving the breadcrumbs as well. Statistics say that for every cod consumed, hundreds of breadcrumbs are also endangered.
I believe the focus is on commercial fish -- tuna, swordfish, etc., yes.
pssss .. don't forget the breadcrumbs
'I believe the focus is on commercial fish -- tuna, swordfish, etc., yes' Which is different than saying every species of fish on earth. Which is exactly what I've been arguing.
I can't push that ... I am aware of the effects on Commercial Fish ... not aware of a specific number regarding *all* fish. However, I happen to know a bit about Marine Biology (what were the odds, right?) and I'd hazard that if it isn't true today, it is not inconceivable within this decade or next. Even now, the waters around almost every country are turning into a toxic soup. Dead zones of anoxic water, once a rarity, have become increasingly common within the past decade. And they are becoming bigger in area. If it hasn't happened yet, it will.
