HAVE WE MISUNDERESTIMATED GEORGE W BUSH?

[+] ballot by Cathexis
created Tue Aug 24, 04

As you all know, by now, I have been no fan of George W Bush. I have considered him ignorant and arrogant ... and that is my nice way of putting it.

And yet ... something has come up to make me wonder ... perhaps I have misunderestimated his intelligence!

In an article in the NY Times, Bob Dole has come forward to clarify why John Kerry is unfit as a candidate: He tried to dodge military service in Vietnam by amassing numerous purple hearts.

When you really examine the situation, didn't John Kerry show an amazing lack of judgment? Carrying around shrapnel in your body and saving men under fire is one of the most *stupid* ways possible to avoid serving your country! The savvy way to evade military service in Vietnam would be to ... oh, I don't know ... join a stateside National Guard unit and then not show up for your medical exam, thereby disqualifying you to fly the planes that taxpayers' dollars were spent to train you to do so?

Now *that* makes sense! Have we misunderestimated W? Is he, perhaps, smarter than we give him credit?

COMMENTS:
I hope that when veterans enter the polling booths, they'll remember what a foolish service evader Senator Kerry was. Don't cast your vote for someone who actually served; like Max Cleland and John McCain, John Kerry is unworthy. We can't trust the role of commander-in-chief to someone who doesn't know how to achieve his personal objectives!

Who better to lead our military than men who knew how to fulfill other priorities when their time to serve in the military was upon them?

But Dubya said himself that Kerry "served admirably" in Vietnam. Maybe the chimp's IQ is 1 point higher than I thought.

The morons who actually think he has a low IQ are underestimating him.

MT: Perhaps. But when Ignorance and a lack of Intellectual Curiosity/Regard combine with Arrogance, Privilege, and Lack of Accountability, it makes for an unappealing, if not dangerous, combination.

Oh, I agree. For all the education he's recieved he's quiet ignorant but in terms of IQ he's probably in the 95th percentile.

He's dangerously cunning... Never underestimate a fox.

I've TRIED to make sense of Mister Bush. REALLY, I have. But I CAN'T. One would THINK that with the coveted DOUBLE Ivy League education, he'd be a LOT sharper than he is. You DON'T put Yale AND Harvard on your resume and then play DUMB. You MUST be genuinely DUMB. Of course, I only know one person who did the Yale-harvard Daily Double, and she's ONLY a lawyer/patented inventor/ex-Marine Corps officer. So I take that as a BIAS...

First of all, it was pointed out that the "Purple Hearts" in question were dubious in the way he received them. All the wounds did not require any time in the hospital. One wound was self-inflicted, when he fired a RPG at some rocks at close range. Also, the majority of soldiers that received Purple Hearts, refused the third one so they could continue fighting with their friends and not returned home. Bush did fulfill his obligation to the National Guard, so long as it was within the month he was to report for duty. As the records show. His instructor would disagee with you on his training on jet fighter(s).
