COMMENTS:
Watch MSNBC, their bias is more obvious than Fox news bias.
I don't think there is a liberal media and a conservative media. Both types are profit driven, and they bow to their shareholders, integrity in reporting and real substance are left to die in the dirt. Even PBS is supported by EXXON-MOBIL-YOUR FAVOURITE-FOSSIL FUEL OLIGARCH HERE so where is the unbiased media in all this? Is there an unbiased media?
There is definitely no such thing as a broad Liberal Media in the past several years. Conservatives have been so focused on this for the past several decades that they never seem to have re-assessed with the start of each new year.
I resent that the other side useage of the word, "Liberal" as if it is a dirty/4 letter expletive...Hey, I am a Liberal and I wear my Liberalism like a badge of honor. Therefore my fellow/Lady Americans, ask not what you can do for your country, ask what the Bush Administration has done for you lately.
There IS a liberal media. During the 2000 election. All I heard was Gore, Gore, Gore, and how he was going to win this and that, Gore's strategies, Gore's thoughts, gore's speeches, There were 12 reporters on the scene with Gore and Two with Bush. I turned it off, and an hour later, the same junk. I'm really tired of it. Same thing with the war in Iraq. See ballot #33160. all they do is capitalize on the worst possible stuff, then when a liberal steps up, they make it look like they are the King of Politics or something. It makes me sick.
so quibble all you like, Barbara_Baby_Snakes.
Celui: I don't know what you were reading, then, or through what filter. I didn't hear anything about Gore, Gore, Gore other than the sniping and backlash from having been in the Clinton Administration. I also heard *little* about the myriad faults and shortcomings of Bush, nor the slanderous dirty attacks on McCain. The press was dormant during 2000 and rolled over completely after 9/11/01.
Cathexis is absolutely right. One of the main reasons Bush got even close to Gore in the voting was because of the media's portrayals of the candidates: Bush as a down-home, friendly, slightly dim-witted but making up for that with honesty and charm, compassionate everyman Texan, and Gore as a stiff and condescending know-it-all. I've done research on this, and there is NO LIBERAL MEDIA, period. None. At all. The myth was started by neo-conservatives to try and manipulate the media, and it worked. Now, in fact, the general media leans a little conservative to attempt to compensate for the "liberal" myth. And then there's Fox News, which is rabidly conservative. One morning I watched Fox and Friends just to see the hot bitches hosting the show and to raise my blood pressure to the point of a heart attack at the tender age of 22, and someone said "Liberal Democrats don't want to talk about the issues," presenting that as fact and not some guy's opinion. Nobody even questioned that. Real liberal media we have here. And we're seeing it again with the Bush/Kerry coverage.
Don't have a heart attack, Counciltucky. Look what happened to Clinton! We need people like you around for awhile.

80% of reporters, editors and writers for all major papers and newsstations vote democrat. Must just be a coincidence.
herzog -- Their political beliefs don't matter -- that's their personal views. It's if they inject their personal views into their coverage that's important, and study after study has shown that they don't.
Let me clarify that -- I meant to say that it's important if the media did inject their personal views into coverage because that should be stopped. However, they don't. Take it from someone with a media degree, someone who's genuinely studied whether or not the media is liberal. I'm very educated on this topic. Individual members of the media could well be liberal, and there's nothing wrong with that. Sme individual members of the media could be conservative as well -- once again, nothing wrong with that. That's their right. People don't get jobs in the media because of their stances on social and political issues, nor do they advance in the media for those reasons. They get in and advance because of talent. Trust me on that. If there was some media conspiracy to give left-wingers more media jobs, make them more influential in the media, and report the media in a left-slanted way, I'd already be a star reporter (that said, I wouldn't report the news in a slanted way -- that isn't the function of the media). The function of the media is to gather information and give it to the general public in an honest and complete manner. The media generally does a decent job at this despite pressure from the right wing and the corporate offices to slant it in a more conservative bias. Fact of the matter is, news should not, repeat NOT, be judged on a political scale. It's unfair to the premise of accurate, honest reporting, which is what the public expects and deserves.
Thanks, Counciltucky and Cathexis, for your thoughtful comments.
