IS EMPATHY BEING ERASED FROM HUMANITY?

Empathy is perhaps the most important human emotion. Working closely with your intuition, empathy tells you that something is terribly wrong; that the little girl should not be living in a slum, that the poverty-stricken family of seven won't be able to survive much longer on its meager living circumstances, that the toddler should not be a walking skeleton. However, humanity's growing ego is beginning to stifle empathy's cries for justice. Many people are listening to their brains and paying no attention to their hearts. Most try to squash empathetic feelings in favor of sympathy, which, while pitying, does not get anything done.

That's too deep for me!

It does seem to have taken a sudden, drastic retreat from a fair subset of the population.

It becomes more and more about money every passing day. Those who have it deserve to have it and those who don't deserve not to. Disgusting.

i think that empathy is something that not every person can grasp. It is a complex emotion, and to some it is overwhelming. The thing is that yes, you may feel sorry for the poor little girl or abused people, however you don't feel what they are going through (empathy) unless you have been in that kind of situation.

More and more often, people don't care, they are too busy with thier life. It is becoming a strage egocentrical world, in which people only think of themselves and don't care to even talk to people they view as "lower" than them. Too bad, they are missing out big time...

You don't need to have been in a similar situation to feel empathy. I feel a kind of extreme empathy. When people talk of broken bones, I literally feel their pain right in the spot they're talking about, and I've never broken a bone.
