COMMENTS:
The Theory of Evolution and The Big Bang are a bit like religious dogma. If you question them, you get persecuted.
by cretin_slap on Tue Sep 21, 04 6:48am [+]

lol, what a joke.
I don't believe these theories force you to act or think in a certain way.
There is no "Evo" God that you must worship and the Big Bang is not your father.
" persecuted ", yeah funny, like you can possibly get you ass beat because you think those theories are false.

But sure if you reject this knowledge you will be considered a religious nut. Rightly so. Unless you're so smart that you can come up with better, scientific, alternatives.

While the two are too often treated as if they were mutually exclusive, I see no evidence that they have to be.

For religious people: It seems obvious that whatever God you believe in is repsonsible for the physical laws in which you live. Man has arbitrarily labelled them Science. This study is your friend, not your enemy.

For Scientists: Each comes to his/her religious views by their own path. Once you strip away the literalism, fear, and corruption, religion (or faith) may be something less objectionable. Not my place to preach or make assertions of which I am not sure. But true scientists realize that just because we don't know something doesn't prove it doesn't exist ... although the form and nature is, no doubt, far from the anthropomorhpised perceptions we get today.

Never thought I'd say this, but cretin_slap makes a good point.

Cathexis response fits closely with the spirit of the ballot. I also happen to concur.

You're finally softening up, lowerclassbrats. Next i'll tell you about how brilliant Gigli and Justin Timberlake are. And you will agree. You will agree. You WILL agree. *chuckle* etc.

God created a number of possibilities in case some of his prototypes failed - that is the meaning of evolution.

Not softening, just a little more diligent about taking my Zolaft.
by lowerclassbrats on Tue Sep 21, 04 12:44pm [+]

I guess it depends on how strictly you believe in one or the other. I see no need for conflict.
by magdalenasdollar on Tue Sep 21, 04 1:22pm [+]

although there is yet to be proof for evolution, there sure is a hell of a lot of evidence pointing towards it. There is no evidence for the existence of God, the closest there is is science not being able to explain how the universe started (which religion cant either, just a theory)
by Preparation_H on Tue Sep 21, 04 3:12pm [+]

In Islam, the Big Bang theory is not in conflict with Islam.

Evolution is, but evolution is something that people think has a lot of 'evidence' behind it, but in reality, there are many different theories that are just as plausible by studying this 'evidence'

Science and Religion are almost the same thing. They are both attempts to explain the environment we find ourselves in and give our lives meaning.

Similarly they have both been usurped by the people who who care nothing for science or religion, but would rather rule millions of people.
by cretin_slap on Thu Sep 23, 04 4:46am [+]

Cretin_slap: you can give it a rest, now. You've got us all convinced how holy and pious you are - indeed, not a day goes by when you don't remind us of your sanctity. And so I'm sure that as soon as you die the Angry Old Guy With The White Beard will take you into heaven, wherever the hell that might be.

That being so, you should stop now before you embarass yourself any worse than you already have. "If you question evolution and the big bang you get persecuted"? Sure, I remember Charles Darwin writing a whole book teaching how to torture anyone who questioned his teachings. Oops, sorry, that was Tomas de Torquemada that did that, not Charlie. My mistake.

And of course, you can name me plenty of people who were burned at the stake or dismembered on the rack for denying evolution or the big bang. Or just one person, for that matter. Can't you? Uh, huh. I rest my case.

Your imaginary playmate tell you his name was Jesus, did he, old chap?

Did you guys know that the first scientist were Christians? Issac Newton for example.
