I think acorns actually don't taste too bad. They are a bit bitter and some have worms in 'em.

Yes, Simmered in water to remove the tannic acid, then roasted or sugar glazed to improve the flavor. Check for holes in the shell that would indicate a worm has eaten the nutmeat. The ones that fall from the tree with the caps still on usually are infested with worms or green.
