No. I play chess with my dog and beat him every time. He is so stupid.

Yes, I think so.
by mojo on Wed Sep 29, 04 11:40am [+]

On a serious note. Im not a big fan of people in general and would rather spend time with animals. The worst thing that ever happened to this planet was man. Lets give animals the vote.

In many ways animals are smarter, they know how to live off the land, they are at one with nature, as we should be.

There is some interesting work being done with gorillas. They have come up with a rudimentary communication system.

As apes are our closest relatives, it does not seem unfeasible that they would show some elimentary intelligence.
by Steelhamster on Wed Sep 29, 04 11:50am [+]

We definitely should not misunderestimate them!
by mojo on Wed Sep 29, 04 11:52am [+]

Sometimes it feels like my grandma's dog reads my mind. Their senses such as smell, taste, and hearing are so strong, I can only wonder what goes on in their brain. They simply communicate in different ways than us. That would be cool if they can talk to eachother through their minds and we don't even know it.
by bow_2_the_queen on Wed Sep 29, 04 11:53am [+]

No, I play trivial persuit with my cat and she's only beaten me three times out of ten.
by _Beelzebubba on Wed Sep 29, 04 11:56am [+]

Yes, but I bet she could give you great stock tips.

I have no doubt.

I believe we live in a comfortable state of denial which allows us to retain our comfortable habits. If we really knew/appreciated the intellectual capabilities of animals and their capacity for sentience, emotion, and thought ... we could not continue our common lifestyle(s).
by Cathexis on Wed Sep 29, 04 12:14pm [+]

They're a lot smarter than we think.
by MrTroche on Wed Sep 29, 04 12:55pm [+]

Dolphins brains are 40% larger than humans and they use a greater % of it than we do (can't remember)

Kinda makes ya wonder if they had thumbs...
by magdalenasdollar on Wed Sep 29, 04 1:28pm [+]

Okay, don't quote me on that one now, I read it in an encyclopedia when I was a little kid smoking crack. Now that I've had ma coffee I am trying to verify this on the internet...

'Dolphins brains are 40% larger than humans and they use a greater % of it than we do' Mmmmm! What's the percentage of dolphins with University Degrees? :O)
by InternalColonel on Wed Sep 29, 04 5:47pm [+]

Dolphins don't swim in schools, IC, they swim in Pods!!!

;)
by magdalenasdollar on Wed Sep 29, 04 7:50pm [+]

Heh heh.

Good point InternalColonel. How many dolphins have invented weapons that can melt buses full of terrorist schoolchildren? Stupid grey squeaky bastards.
by cretin_slap on Thu Sep 30, 04 8:30am [+]

Yes we do. We don't even understand how other animals think. It's the same with some people...they assume that just because they can't understand someone of a different culture that they're stupid.
