They oppose the first on the grounds that it discriminates based on gender and is thus unfair, and yet they support the second. Is that hypocritical?

Yes
No, it makes sense to give women their own colleges, but not men

If the situation were reversed, if a third of a traditionally male college were to turn out and protest the admittance of women then the feminists would have a field day with it and the story would be posted in the headlines of just about every newspaper in the country for a week. As is, this is probably all we're going to hear about it.

Woah!

I almost answered completely differently! What a difference a hyphen makes! You don't mean 'all male' and 'all female' colleges ... you mean 'all-male' and 'all-female' examples, right?

It probably is hypocritical, if viewed in a strict, literalist manner. But that means their arguments are imprecise/ misplaced, not that their desired result is without merit.

Yeah, for some reason I get in trouble for using hyphenated words on here sometimes, says they're too long. So I try to avoid them.

If they really want equality then it is certainly hypocritical. The problem is that some feminists don't want equality, they want the inequality reversed.
