COMMENTS:
Note that the provision refers to terrorist *suspects*!
Note, too, that the provision was not part of the 9/11 Commission's original recommendations. The Commission actually called upon the U.S. to 'offer an example of moral leadership in the world, committed to treat people humanely, abide by the rule of law, and be generous and caring to our neighbors.'
No, why would they announce that publicly? in war torture is common and it always will be.

The absolute height and depth of hypocrisy.

ABC: Hastert tried to slip it into a bill, but he was exposed by another Congressman who issed a press release (don't recall who ... I want to say Rep. Ed Markey , but am not certain).
Note also: This is not limited to times of war. It is *any* terrorism *suspect*.
No, I would still keep it illegal. You can't always expect the right answer when torturing someone, they'll lie and try to get out of it. It's against the Geneva convention and that's why I think it'll never happen.
According to Private Eye (an investigative and satirical UK magazine), the USA has been outsourcing torture for quite a long time illegally. How very LIBERAL of the US government to legalise it!
Funny how Jenny17 cant have an answer for this...
I'm REALLY considering a move north now. This is NOT my America any more. YES, I KNOW that we've had the School of the Americas, that they've trained foreign soldiers to torture probably-innocent civilians, and it has bothered me, though not enough to go out and protest as Martin Sheen has in the past. But maybe I NEED to START...
truthseeker, we all love this country, I wouldn't consider abandoning it. We just have to work together to get the radical religious fundamentalists out of white house, and restore our country to where it once was.

LCD is right. Much as our home-grown extremists sicken me; to paraphrase an admittedly limited intellect: If you give up; the extremists have already won.
Here is my chilling scenario which could soon become reality. Imagine a psychopathic Congress having the absolute power to make ALL suspects as well as anybody they don't particularly like into "terrorism suspects" regardless of the crimes with which they have been charged. In my opinion, that's how collectively paranoid Congress has become! Let's face it, folks! It's time for us to wake up and smell the coffee! We are moving from a democratic republic to an George Orwellian 1984-style oligarchial totalitarian police hate-state where there are no laws of any kind to protect us; there are only decrees solely favoring the "Inner Party" at the expense of the masses.....you and me which are always subject to change without notice. Congress is showing more and more proof that it ALREADY IS that oligarchial "inner party" effectively in being and is just biding its time! If it succeeds in being allowed to outsource torture, it will drive yet another coffin nail into our already-deteriorated Bill of Rights, thus lowering the USA to the level of Red China, North Korea, Cuba, Iran, Lybia, Nazi Germany under Adolph Hitler, the former Soviet Union under Joseph Stalin......I think you get my point here! Anybody could be arrested only at midnight long after curfew, taken away and never seen again......vaporized! Here is where the Orwellian "1984" slogan "WHO CONTROLS THE PAST CONTROLS THE FUTURE; WHO CONTROLS THE PRESENT CONTROLS THE PAST." applies. All officially-authorized- only records and documents pertaining to the existance of anybody arrested are stricken from the government's data base meaning that "they do not exist; they never existed." Imagine a world of nothing but todays with no yesterdays and no tomorrows.....a continuous present without a past and without a future, period. Congress also wants to shut down C-Span forever and close all of its doors to the public so that they can conduct their business under absolute top secrecy. Want further details on this? Just read and study George Orwell's "1984"....if you can still find a copy of it which may have already been banned from all bookstores and public libraries throughout what is now the USA for being too close to the objective truth for the comfort of Congress! Fellow Americans, we are going to have to quickly excerise our First Amendment right to petition while we still can by petitioning the Federal Supreme Court to lay down the law to Congress by declaring that proposed law to outsource torture unconstitutional under the Sixth Amentment of our Bill of Rights provision against CRUEL AND UNUSUAL PUNISHMENT. Yes, Congress is STILL accountable to our Federal Supreme Court and now more than ever, we must fight to keep it that way!
