But now Bush is looking into briging in vaccines from Canada (I thought Canada's drugs were too dangerous?)
You are absolutely correct Closet regarding it being a Califiornia-Based company and how convenient it was to leave that MOST important detail out of the discussion...It just goes to show what and who Bush really is...You fill in the,__________.
I hope Canada doesn't make it illegal to import US drugs, now.
It's such a crock of sh#t. They don't even believe the lies they're telling. They have to reverse the decision not allowing price controls on American Rx drugs. It's so simple, back away from the money these corporations are throwing at them and do what's right. Neither party has mentioned reserving the legislation. You guys really should bitch about it. It's not right how they're ripping people off. We have a constant stream of Americans coming up here because they're desperate of Rx drugs. That's not right. Personally I like to help your seniors but seriously, Canada can't support your demand, we're too small a country. If we were fully open to American's demands for Rx drugs our entire supply would be gone 34 days.
You're facts are incorrect. You are right that Chiron is based in Califorina. However, the flu vaccine in question WAS BEING MANUFACTURED IN THE UK NOT IN AMERICA. The news article is below. Come on..grow up..this has NOTHING to do with us vs. them. Get real dude!! WASHINGTON (AP) -- Don't expect imports of flu shots from Canada or other countries to ease the crippling shortage, the nation's health secretary cautioned Thursday. The Food and Drug Administration is in discussions with two companies that sell flu vaccine in Canada and elsewhere, and have found a few million unsold doses. But that vaccine is not licensed for sale in the United States, and thus meeting FDA requirements in time for this flu season "is doubtful," Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson told reporters Thursday. "The only way," Thompson said, is if foreign supplies met certain conditions that might allow some to be offered as experimental vaccine. But even that determination could take too long to help. "It doesn't look promising," he said. Thompson's comments came after President Bush suggested during Wednesday's presidential debate that Canadian supplies might ease the vaccine shortage. "We're working with Canada to hopefully ... help us realize the vaccine necessary to make sure our citizens have got flu vaccinations during this upcoming season," Bush said. The president made those comments even though his administration has fought municipalities' efforts to import cheaper medications from Canada, questioning the drugs' safety. The vaccine crisis began last week when British regulators shut down shipments from Chiron Corp., which had made 48 million flu shots destined for the United States in an English factory. Some batches of the vaccine were contaminated with a worrisome bacteria. The surprise decision cut the U.S. supply of flu shots almost in half. The government is urging healthy adults to skip the shot this year so that the remaining 55.4 million doses can go to the youngest, oldest and sickest Americans, who are most vulnerable to influenza. FDA inspectors still are in England trying to determine how serious the contamination problem is, and whether every batch of Chiron vaccine is affected. Thompson expects a final report early next week. Thompson said the bigger issue is how to increase the number of vaccine makers willing to sell in this country so that future shortages are averted. He urged Congress to authorize the government to purchase up to 100 million doses of flu vaccine each year, to guarantee companies enough of a market "that we have a ready source of vaccine year after year." Vaccines seldom are profitable -- particularly flu vaccine, which is good only for the year in which it's made. Most years, a few million doses go unsold and are thrown away.
The more I read this crap the more I realize how ridiculous this is. GET A LIFE! If you had presented the fact correctly, you wound not be looking like the idiots you look like now!! KNOW the news before you present it...it is YOU who are doing the spin.
How is anything that I said different that what you posted? It's a California-based company and it was the British government that suspended the company's license.
Can you NOT read! The vaccine was being made in the UK, not the US. The British government suspended any license...they shut down the BRITISH subsidiary of Chiron. The point is...the flu vaccine was being made in the UK, by British workers. Your Ballot is poorly worded because you fail to mention the fact that the vaccine was being made in England..and, you write that the British government suspended the company's license..fine..but it was a British company and you try to make it seem like the British government shut down Chiron in California and you try to make it seem like the vaccine was being made in the U.S. The point is: if you are going to present news, do so directly and clearly and give all the facts. It is you who wanted to put a spin on it and in journalism, it is known as "lying by omission." Sorry, but you're ballot is not clear and I just want to set the record straight. Also, it is believed that Chiron is actually a French companyh, and I'm trying to find confirmation for that. Sorry if I seem worked up, but please look at the facts. Thanks!

If it was a company IN California how could the British government suspend it's license?
They did NOT suspend the license of the company...they suspended the license of the UK division...thats my whole point. Again, please read this segment of the AP article: The vaccine crisis began last week when British regulators shut down shipments from Chiron Corp., which had made 48 million flu shots destined for the United States in an English factory. ClosetIguana: see how the article says that they were made in an ENGLISH factory and that the vaccines were DESTINED for the United States and how FDA Officials are in England now (FDA is our Food and Drug Administration). Since the British subsidiary of Chiron was making them in a factory in the UK, logically the UK can suspend production at the BRITISH factory in the UK.
Dude, what ever, try to convince yourself. The fact is, your ballot is poorly worded and you were fishing for the type of response you wanted. The flu vaccines were made in England, by British workers, in a British subsidiary of an American company. President Bush presented the facts truthfully...the British government suspended the license of a BRITISH company who happens to be a subsidiar of Chiron. You got caught dude, fair and square. If it makes you feel better to try and rationalize your dishonesty, then go right ahead.
Caught? Like I said tell me what is wrong with this statement: Well actually it was a California-based company and it was the British government that suspended the company's license.
bye. come back when you have the intelligence to present the facts and more importantly, to understand them.
Look Buddy, the fact is, it does not matter if it is an American company. That is true. However, the suspension was solely the British Factory that was making the flu vaccine...again...in England, but English employees. That is the fact. Chrion is still fully operational, but it's ENGLISH plant was closed because the BRITISH factory, run by BRITISH employees, had the problem. I know you understand that, but you're mortified that you had the facts either wrong, or, as I belive, you intentionally worded them to suit your desire to slam America...you got caught with your hand in the cookie jar and now you're back-peddeling to try and save face. Look, what ever, best of luck to you pal!
Are you so stupid that you can't even remember to sign in on your own poll?! What is wrong with you..and buddy, I'm NOT a Republican. I happen to be 15 years old. Boy, you are clueless.
There is that better? So tell me what part of the story is spin?
Okay, then I have to go: Your Ballot asks "Remember when Bush said they stopped the British Flu Vaccine Because it was unsafe? " You then add a statement "well actually, it was a California-based company and it was the British government that suspended the company's license." It is misleading in that Bush told the truth: the vaccine was being manufactured in the UK. Due to a bacteria being found, they suspended production and would not allow the shipment to leave the UK. The British government suspended operations of the UK subsidiary/factory. Your poll is worded in such a way that it makes it appear that Bush lied, which he did not...it was being manufactured in the UK, by a lab in the UK. Your poll also is worded in such a way that makes it appear that the British government suspended Chiron's license, when in fact, as the news articles point out, the British government in fact suspended operations at the UK facility and that facility only, as they would have no authority to do otherwise. The folks who no longer have jobs were the British. Do you see the distinction? You can "spin" anything, which brings me to your ballot choices. "typical spin," "I'm sure he wasn't spinning this info," and "Typical American hating foreign goods." The reason why this is leading is because you did not fully convey the facts and that is the problem I have. Had you pointed out in your statement that the vaccine was manufactured in Great Britain, by British employees and that the British government suspended operations of the BRITISH facility, that would have at least had more of the pertinent facts. The fact is, the British government did the right thing and actually, I'm sure the bacteria found was an accident and I'mn glad their safe-guards found it.
I have to go now closet. Thanks for the lively debate. Hope I wasn't too much of an uptight hard a**. :) Talk to you later.
P.S. I just went to your other poll about prescription drugs from canada...i like it..thanks! I also gave it a high karma rating to make up for the low one I gave this one (I was trying to get back at you LOL). Thanks!
There's the spin.
No hard feelings
Well, all things considered, Bush can be a bit of a dolt, so nothing surprises me...I guess the person speaking into the ear piece in his ear, telling him what to say goofed LOL
