COMMENTS:
I voted along parental party lines until I met a young Black Republican. He convinced me of my errors. I am Catholic so I have asked for frogiveness for my sins (those bieng voting demonrat)
It's not abnormal for people to vote as their parents do, but most people - at some point in their lives - question their parents' (and therefore their own) political views. It is that introspection that really decides where each individual sits on the political fence. Some consequently stay true to their parents' beliefs; others modify their beliefs a bit; while others completely change their views. I was ultra-conservative in junior high, but became more liberal in high school (i.e., I'm ok with abortion, provided that it's not partial-birth, but I'm still a Republican). Another example is my uncle, who was born of conservative parents but is now a liberal. Some people - both liberal and conservative - never question their parent-influenced beliefs, and that's pretty ignorant. If you're going to believe something, you should at least know WHY you believe it. Great poll.
I remember my mother voting for John Anderson in 1980 because Reagan and Carter were both "putzes" in her words. This might have some influence on why I'm voting for Michael Badnarik this year.
