WHICH PARENT OR RELATIVE INFLUENCED YOUR POLITICAL IDEOLOGY AND AFFILIATION?

[+] ballot by Barbara_Baby_Cakes
created Mon Oct 25, 04

Many people vote along political lines the same as their parents. Some decided to break away from the family tradition (either to vote for the other party or not voting at all). Where are you politically in the present in comparison to where you were last Presidential election and why?

Mother
Father
Uncle/Aunt
Sibling
Grand-Parent

It's not abnormal for people to vote as their parents do, but most people - at some point in their lives - question their parents' (and therefore their own) political views. It is that introspection that really decides where each individual sits on the political fence. Some consequently stay true to their parents' beliefs; others modify their beliefs a bit; while others completely change their views. I was ultra-conservative in junior high, but became more liberal in high school (i.e., I'm ok with abortion, provided that it's not partial-birth, but I'm still a Republican). Another example is my uncle, who was born of conservative parents but is now a liberal. Some people - both liberal and conservative - never question their parent-influenced beliefs, and that's pretty ignorant. If you're going to believe something, you should at least know WHY you believe it. Great poll.

I remember my mother voting for John Anderson in 1980 because Reagan and Carter were both "putzes" in her words. This might have some influence on why I'm voting for Michael Badnarik this year.
